Read the first page, may have "turned" somewhere in the middle. Over night temps in the 50's tonight...one day last week smelled like fall for just a moment.
It's coming.
Winter never ends.Shut your eyes and think of somewhere. Somewhere cold and caked with snow.

I was just thinking of this thread this morning. Jumped on the Harley to ride to work and had to go back for a sweatshirt. The TURN is here!

The "Turn" for me seems to fall just about now. Just returned from a road trip through the Southern Cascades, and skied a few runs at Timberline with my wife. I expect a healthy dose of NW Swell on Friday/Saturday. That is the first signal of change.
Then I head back East to visit family, returning just before Labor Day.
May be heading to Mexico for a week of surfing in September.
when I come back, Fall should be in full swing, with Winter just a few weeks beyond.
In a blink of the eye, I fully expect to be submerged in powder.

I've been feeling that we're at the turn too. Apparently, so does the local weather guy:
Temperatures rising once again as the flow of air over Utah comes from the south. There may be a few thunderstorms over the mountain country- but dry weather in the valleys. A strong storm from Canada looks like it will drop in to the Rockies on Friday, bringing mountain snow to that area! For Utah, it should mean a drop in temperature, but most of the stormy weather should stay to the East. -Grant Weyman, Live 5 Weather HD 8/13/08

You guys should get a room down the street.
No need to ruin a perfect thread, ya know?

biked keystone this weekend and had that cold rain while ridin. felt like the kind of ride you might have when you skied one day then biked the next. combine that with ridin the chairlift up and both myself and my bikin buddy said we can fell winter right around the corner and the itch to slap on the planks is growing stronger...
...I'd say I've made the turn.

As usual, I will be trying to cram all summer into the last 2 weeks of August. Ask me again after that whatchamacallit 3 day weekend.

Oh YEA!!
Friday: Mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers in the morning, and more widespread rain in the afternoon and evening. Snow will fall in the Front Range Mountains at and above the 10,500 foot level. There may be some snow in foothills communities like Evergreen and Estes Park but it will melt as it falls. Morning lows around Denver will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s, afternoon highs in the lower 60s.
Saturday: Cloudy with rain on and off throughout the day. Snow will fall in the highest elevations (above 10,000 feet) in the Front Range Mountains. Morning lows will be in the upper 40s, afternoon highs in the middle to upper 60s.
1 month and 10 days until snowmaking starts at LLand.
Oh
Friggin'

NYC has finally made the turn (I hope) from 95 to 85 and low 60s at night. I had to break out an old powder on the commute to work the other day cause I could finally feel a chill in the air. I was beyond stoked for winter-> it was hard to explain the smile on my face when I got to work.

The last couple days I was reminded of when this thread started last year, because the cool has returned to the night air here. I needed to put on an extra cover at night, as the walls of the building are no longer heating up my apartment at night; I don't have to open the windows and use a fan to cool the place down.
I guess others are feeling it too; it's cool that this got bumped; I thought about doing it, but I see I got beat to the punch.Last edited by Rasputin; 08-14-2008 at 01:18 AM.

I'm not sure what to look for out here in Reno anymore. I used to feel the turn in NC when the humity would finally drop(from 100% to 60%), but out here is reno it has felt soooo cool this summer I'm a little confused. It's funny to listen to all the westerners complain about the "heat" though
105 never felt so cool...Originally Posted by wintermittentOriginally Posted by snowsprite

It seems a bit early but there's no stopping it. We've had a cool summer here and I've already seen some leaves changing. Now that it's started I can't stop it. Two nights in a row I've had dreams of deep powder. It's going to be 90 here this weekend but the turn has been made.

You must live in the East. Been hot and dry here and all indications are that the building strong El Nino will not make for a winter to be desired. On the other hand it should be off the hook East and from what I can tell Colorado is the point of change so they should have a fine winter. Already cool and snow on the highest peaks.
The snow doesn't give a soft white damn whom it touches.
