I agree, mistake on the Australian. The Italian player had made 2 nice moves and was going to have a shot. I think you gotta make that call if you are the ref. Its too bad though as the Aussies were running the show.Comment

As an English rugby fan, I can sadly say that whilst most people would think of Australia and rugby - and rightly so - the little known (global recognition) Italian rugby team stands a very good chance of thrashing the pants off England in the 6 Nations 2007.Originally posted by Cono EsteI thought Rugby was played in Australia not Italy?
Back to the footy...what a shame, I never back Australia, but they fought hard and that was just so rubbish at the end -made worse by the goal scorer sucking his thumb as celebration? Not around much these days.Comment

Agreed wholeheartedly.Originally posted by Long Duck DongI agree, mistake on the Australian. The Italian player had made 2 nice moves and was going to have a shot. I think you gotta make that call if you are the ref. Its too bad though as the Aussies were running the show.
Going to goal, beaten the defenders, go down in the box with contact and ball no longer at feet...pretty much FORCED the ref to call the PK...even if it was a FLOP...clever clever italian. Ref HAD to call that. Sorry folks, that was a smart, sneaky, clever flop; flop though it may have been. I'm with the ref on this one!
Mistake to the Oz defender, should have showed him the end line and stayed to feet. If he gets around you at that point, at least he has no angle, and if it bounces around or squirts out, the regulation period ends...
Oh well. Aussies should have pushed much harder much earlier after the ejection. At least starting with 15 left instead of 5. That, and they needed a bit more creativity in the attack near the end, instead of repeatedly launching diagonal crosses in to the far post from 35-40 yards away.
That said, other than that, I'd say they held tough. Admirable effort.
Doubt Italy will make it too much further in this Cup.Last edited by Yossarian; 06-26-2006, 10:19 AM.Thrutchworthy Production ServicesComment

Italy hasn't looked good but Switzerland & Ukraine have looked worse. Shame the brackets were shit this time around - upper left and lower right are the home of the champions imho - GER vs. ARG or the expected ESP v. BRA should be the semis, not quarters.Originally posted by YossarianDoubt Italy will make it too much further in this Cup.Elvis has left the buildingComment

Argentina - Germany: The Photo Voodoo Curse (DAY 1)
He had a great debut against Costa Rica (goal included) and has performed consistently since. This left fullback shows very incisive in the offense (like a short-haired blonde Sorin) and for this reason he opens my 5-day Photo Voodoo Curse. Break a leg, Philip!

I am Italian and I must say I would rather see them lose than win like that!
What a waste of an hour and a half of my time. And after the first half I thought we were finally playing decently: no diving, no whining even though the Aussies were playing very physical.
I think the ref made a mistake when he expelled Materazzi: he commited a foul but not worthy of a red card. Then the ref overcompensated by being too tough with the Aussies.
Refereeing has been rather bad in this World Cup.
Basically we have a great goalie, and a bunch of prima-donnas who never play together and are all trying to score for themselves instead of working for the team...
Very embarassing. It will all end swiftly when we have to play a good team like Germany or Argentina.
Now I am just looking forward to watching Germany/Argentina on Friday.Last edited by Alek; 06-26-2006, 10:38 AM.Comment
