    Question Punk Music Is Good

What are you listening to? I like:

    - Dead Kennedys. I like there style. (bang!). Guitar is most excellent, and if you can find a vid of there old shows, it looks like good times were had by all
    - Ramones, another classic. Weird lookin guys though
    - Poop is good also
    - Rikk Agnew on his solo album (all by myself). played every instrument ya'know.
    - Dwarves, could be considered heavy metal, but still most excellent.

Probably will get a nasty rash of shit for not having sex pistols, but i find there music to slow. sloooooooooooow.

I found it funny the other day I was walking through a local cd store, and was browsing the punk section, and found the likes of good charlotte, and fall out boy, and found dead kennedys in the "alternative" section. i think i need to start shopping elsewheres.

Try FEAR 'The Record' and Circle Jerks 'Golden Shower of Hits'. Both are classics, fast, and similar to what you like.

agreed. Best British punk band was the Clash.

Check out Husker Du. Some may question their "punkness", but they were one of the bet bands ever to record for SST.

Adam- Some Jello trivia for you, he grew up in Boulder. Just four blocks from Jon Benet's house

I also think this may be the first time I've ever seen someone claim that punk music is...uh...."good"

I consider myself a punk purist and I happen to like a lot of the newer NOFX stuff, especially "The Decline" - a 15 minute politically slanted punk song. An instant classic in my opinion.

    Old School greats, IMO:
MDC - Fast, hard, super political. The "Millions of Dead Cops/More Dead Cops" album says it all. Their classic song = "John Wayne was a Nazi"
Aggression - One of the original 'nard core bands out of Oxnard. Heavy guitars. Classic song = "SATC" (Slammin' at the Club)
D.I. - The Agnew brothers w/ Casey Royer. Political, fast. They still play around here (SoCal). Covered by Slayer on "Undisputed Attitude." Classic song = "Richard Hung Himself"
Circle Jerks - My favorite is the "Group Sex/Wild in the Streets" album. Many classics.
Discharge - Pre-GBH British punk. Simple but heavy. Covered by Metallica (for whatever that's worth).
D.R.I. - A lot of their stuff is more speed metal, but I dig 'em. My favorite album is the "Dirty Rotten LP."
Agnostic Front - N.Y. hardcore at its finest. The "Live at CBGB's" album is awesome. Roger Miret is a punk icon.
R.K.L. - Another 'nard core band. Fast, not so hard. They only had a couple of albums, but they were well known in SoCal.
Bad Religion - Some people don't like their newer stuff, but no one can argue that they are probably one of the top three most influential punk bands of all time.
Black Flag - I dig "Everything Went Black," which is a pre-Rollins history of Black Flag. The "Rise Above" tribute album is pretty good too.
Early Suicidal Tendencies - "Institutionalized" may be one of the top ten punk songs of all time.

Others that come to mind: Early Corrosion of Conformity, early Cro-Mags, Minor Threat, Conflict, TSOL, Misfits, GBH, Insted, Subhumans.

The album cover does have the red laces, but I think that was an oversight. I've met Roger Miret and he's definitely not a racist. Things may have been different at that time, however.
