    moral dilema v. 2.0 NSR

I pulled into my apt complex a few minutes ago and "parked" my car in the garage. I really had to use the pisser so I ran over to check my mail and as soon as I opened my box, I heard a bump. Look to my left and my idiot ass forgot to put my car in gear after it was off so it rolled back on a VERY slight slope and bumped into a parked car. I parked it back in the garage and left it in gear this time and used the facilities. I did check out the other car quickly before running inside, there is a black scuff on it. I wrote a note, saying sorry, my car rolled back into yours, I apologize for any inconvenience, lemme know how to make things right. I left my name apt. # and phone number. Then when I went out to put it under their windshield, I looked at the "damage" much closer and noticed this black mark went all the way around the bumper, and there is no way my tap did that. Their car is kinda rough anyway. There is 1 witness however. So, the dilemma, should I let things be and see how they work out, or be a dick and snag the note back before tomorrow morning? WWMD? I don't wanna get stuck for this entire rear bumper since I KNOW its not all my fault if any at all. FYI there was a tiny white smudge on my car that easily wiped off with just my hand.

edit - spelling fixed as much as possible. Sorry Schmear!

By the way, for future dilemna/dilema thread starters, it's "dilemma."

Was the car a-rockin' when it got bumped?

consider the worst that could happen:
    felony hit and run
    vs.
    you pay for his bumper.

    leave the note..

Note was left under windshield wiper. Looked at the car closer when I left it though. Looks like my smudge was about 3 inches too high to be the bad one on the bumper and it looks like the bumper has been spraypainted white before. Hopefully the car is a lost cause to them and they just don't care and thats that.

Leaving the note is/was the right thing to do. There is a witness. He can help, as well as hurt, you.

I am thinking you should kill the witness and blow up their car.

here is what you write in the note... " I am writing this note because some schmuck witnessed my car rolling into your piece of shit.He is watching me write this. We both know that your car is worthless so it's obvious I won't be leaving my name. Have a nice day "

Well, even though said note was left, apparently said witness took it upon himself to call the police. Came home to a officers card tucked into my door, saying "please contact me in regards to an accident involving your car". Great. We shall see how this turns out.

    update if anyone cares:

Finally had the officer come out today. I ended up getting a ticket for 'failure to report'. No fine on it, he said it was a mandatory court date with a caveat. He went through the list of tickets he could give me and settled on this one since he said it'd be easiest for me to take care of. Then he told me to call the city prosecutor in a few days and tell them what happened. Hopefully I can just pay a small fine and be done with it after that! My scheduled court date is July 5th at 8am. That ain't gunna happen...
