Ha I remember gas being around $.90/gallon in Jersey in the late 90s. Hell, it was even $1.30 or so about 3 years ago.

Christ, I just filled up with premium yesterday here in Boulder for 2.89/gal. Sounds like my next fillup wil be a good 20-30 cents higher.

Remember US demand is the primary force that lets gas companies charge what they want. Reduce the demand, and the price increases will follow.
Next time you see someone getting low milage in their vehicle or making unneccessary trips thank them for increasing your prices too.
Why yes, I have been commuting to work by bicycle this week..... 15 miles each way, and it feels good (and only takes about 10 minutes longer than driving)."if the city is visibly one of humankind's greatest achievements, its uncontrolled evolution also can lead to desecration of both nature and the human spirit."

I remember paying $.73/gallon in Charleston, SC in '98.
I also used to spend my off seasons road tripping. Sure couldn't do that now.

Just a rant:
I FUCKING HATE the stupid CC machines on the pumps b/c many/most of them have 50 or 75 dollar limits, at these prices hitting 75 per fill is easy for me and doing two transactions makes me angry beyond reason. Yeah, it hurts to pay that at the pump. That's part of the reason I sold my snowmobile, and own two Toyota Corolla's.
Fuck it, we need to change our thinking anyway. This continued trend of bigger, faster, more powerful isn't helping anything.

That part is basic supply/demand analysis but the reasons its higher this year are more complicated and since I have to run to class I'll come back to edit some of them in later. It ain't about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward - Rocky

Here's my problem - I was going to start riding my bike to work, but the wife and I commute together and she works a few blocks from me (about 9). Even if I ride my bike, she is still going to drive about the same distance, plus she works on campus, so she will be circling around looking for parking, burning even more.

Does anybody here (old farts like me) remember the odd/even days during the Carter years? The Iran hostage situation created some long fun waits at the gas pump that summer.
