So, looks like this great-nephew of my old fuzzbucket above is coming home in 2-4 weeks.
It's a surprise for my 7 y/o boy who's been all about taking care of our 15.5 y/o BC but clearly wants the playmate that our old boy has been. I've been peppering him with names for a while now. Some of the favorites so far:
Thinking names. . .
Shep
Disco
Tag
Sweep
Graeme
Connor II
[FWIW, so many of my would-be meaningful names related to meaningful things have been converted into names for kids that look like mine or golden retrievers, so, fuck it. ]I still call it The Jake.

Congrats. The new dog may energize the old dog. Our puppy has made my SIL's old dog play again.
Some other names:
Cuyahoga
Odell
Bernie"timberridge is terminally vapid" -- a fortune cookie in Yueyang

Thanks man, I’m just trying to enjoy every day with him while I can. He’s still sharp as a tack, and wants to play and chase the ball, his back legs just get weak after going ‘round for about 10 minutes or so, so I let him catch his breath and before you know it, he’s tossing his ratty old toy in my lap again.
I love that dog so damned much.I still call it The Jake.

I got home last night from being gone for two weeks and my guy was so excited that he howled for a solid 5 minutes. Dogs are really the best part of coming home from vacation.

Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. Two joyous late nights this week with our pooch. Early Tuesday, I wake hearing him barking in an unfenced area of our property he doesn’t have access to, plus he was locked in the house for the night. He knocked out a screen of an open windows and was running around. I got out there to him with a leash right when he dove under an outhouse and emerged with a skunk in his mouth. We got a huge spraying and I got it all over myself trying to chase him down and get him into the fenced area. Our house wreaks because our window fans sucked it into the house as he was trying to rub it off. I think some is stuck under a few of my fingernails.
Last night, with windows closed, he wouldn’t settle down for the night and would bay and bark at something in our back 40 that I could not find with my spot light. After about two hours of this cycle and going outside like 6 times, I finally found the eyes looking back from my light at me high up in a tree. A bear. <sigh>. It wasn’t getting enough time to downclimb before I’d let the dog out again. Eventually, I got the dog to settle down by sleeping with him in our living room.
