Today, almost exactly a year to the day that our previous northern dog Utah died, we adopted this little beauty. Meet our new pack member, Moira. Her full name is Moira Rose, as the people at her foster home had a Schitt's Creek theme for her and her puppies. We're going with Moira. She's a nice size, about 40 pounds, about the size of a skinny border collie. She is about a year old, and came from Attiwapiskat, a remote fly-in community on the shores of James Bay, in northern Ontario. Poor thing got pregnant in her first heat and the puppies were born after she got to the rescue people. She is sweet and well-mannered in the house but is all wolf when she gets outside, and has a super-high prey drive. It'll be a while before she gets off leash but I am confident that she will be an excellent ski dog:

I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards." – Edward Abbey

Ms. Multiglisse was working with Moira today on learning to play. Apparently this is exhausting. #pawsofthenorthrescue

Frank before and after cutting his nose today. Not sure what happened... But think he cut it on our fence. He may be the most accident prone dog I've ever known but he's also the best dog.
Couldn't get his nose to stop bleeding, got to the vet and it had magically stopped so dodged that bullet for now (will be keeping an eye on it to see how it's healing)

Hope it works out with your new dog ZZZ. Sure is a cute dog
Also, I have been looking to add a new pup to our household and kinda want a small dog. Am I crazy for wanting something like a Yorkie mix? Or some other terrier (jack Russell, Irish, Welsh, border terriers all look like they could fit our active lifestyle..... Someone talk me out of getting a small dog haha anyone have a small dog other than a heeler that does well on trails?

I've got a pomsky that does pretty well hiking and skiing, not so much mountain biking (he does fine on an easy spin but doesn't seem inclined to maintain the pace I'd ride on my own, and I'm not fast). Unlike a full husky, his exercise needs are actually manageable most of the time.
Granted, I don't think I'd ever have paid what it costs to get one from a breeder, but my wife lucked into getting him from the folks who did pay that money and--I'm guessing--underestimated the impact of the husky genes.

A pomsky would be cool or a pomeranian-yorkie mix. But ya the cost of those dogs is a non-starter for me.
My mother-in-law has a corgi-jack russell mix that is a pretty rad little dude, but he can hike for like 2 miles tops. And corgis seem like they can be a little too temperamental for us as we have a 1-year-old child.
Getting a new dog is probably more of a pipedream at the moment, but I keep my eyes on the classifieds and local shelters in case the perfect mutt comes available.
