That book is the reason I carry mountain biking. Scott Lancaster, the 19yo was killed 12 miles from here. The cats being stealthy AF, I know it’s extremely unlikely I’d have time to draw/shoot, but in a stare-down, I’d rather have something more substantial than bare hands and slow legs to defend myself.

I've had one encounter with a cat. Pre season at Baker. Came around a corner on the way to Table Mountain and he was smack dab in the middle of the trail less than ten feet ahead of me. I had my snowboard under my arm and quickly moved it in front of me. I slowly backed up around the corner and sat down with my back against a tree. I was holding my snowboard with both hands on the bindings ready to fight for my life. After about ten minutes I stood up and went back to my hike.

What we have here is an intelligence failure. You may be familiar with staring directly at that when shaving. .

I carry bear spray frequently when mtn biking here in JH
we made a little carrier out of an old water bottle and then added another neoprene coozy inside and it fits in the water bottle cage well. I usually wear a pack/camelbak on these longer rides anyway.
But yeah I have little doubt it would work when that mtn lion catches one by surprise from behind, which is their specialty. they are all around here- we had a scope on one from our house a couple of yrs ago.
I feel like it keeps you a bit more sharp in the woods when you know there's the possibility of an encounter with a hungry gianthousecatskid luxury

A traveling nurse's dog went missing near South Lake Tahoe in August. The owner had to evacuate from the Caldor fire and had to go to another assignment. The dog was spotted in the mountains by a skier during the mid December snow storm and was rescued by volunteers from Tahoe Paws, was found to be healthy, and was returned to its owner in Socal.

14’s a good run, your lucky!
I’m getting pushback from the wife for a spring pup. Wants to travel more.
Makes those 35 year old MILFs with an 8 year old, that more attractive.
