He started using his bum leg again, chasing us while we were sledding on the hill behind the house. He seems to be steadily improving. It was a true Tiny Tim moment.

    It’s a Christmas miracle.

Had a vet appt today (they were closed yesterday). Got some pain reliever for him. She thought it was probably soft tissue…. We’ll monitor for a couple days and try to minimize his activity.
    focus.

Nice dog, but these pictures remind me how ugly UT is in certain spots.

Im hear that. It was her first tour and conditions are dicey. Better to start her off in this than something that is sketchy. We did not see 1 other living soul which added to the desolate beauty of the environment.

Looks like a great place to run around in as you won't lose sight of your pooch.

Absolutely, especially because she is currently in the middle of her first heat

As stated above, Hazel Honey is in the middle of her 1st heat. She is 9mos. old. She is my first female puppy. My only other experience with female dogs are with rescues that we have had spayed. She has a very heavy flow. For the past 4-5 days I have been finding vaginal blood on floors, blankets and snow. We do not plan on breeding her, but her trainer has told us not to spay her for the popular reasons (weight gain, change of personality). I don't like the idea of doggie sanitary napkins. Right now I am not sure what I will do, but the vet. says that after her first heat she is ready to be spayed. Any words of wisdom?

We recently relocated and now have a backyard that backs up to a little bit of swampy stuff and a field. Not a bad trade for losing the fenced yard in town overall.Click image for larger version.

Trainers are very opinionated, veterinarians have medical and scientific training. Personally, I'd go with the vet's advice, YMMV. Our dog is a rescue, got knocked up in her first heat, had nine puppies, got spayed, all before she came into our life. Seven months later she is slim and trim, happy as a clam.

Transitions, layer changes, water breaks; basically the moment my dog Spider gets the impression we are stopped for more than 5 minutes on the skin track he builds himself a little burrow / pad to chill in. On steeper ground like in these pics, he builds himself some pretty impressive craters.
