Not sure how many ski days the old girl has left in her, but today was a good one.

Met a couple random canines when starting the Saturday tour, friendliest critters ever and very amped at the thought of going on a hike. They accompanied us for 45 minutes before we shooed them off. Found them again 8 hours later when we came out. Walked them to the first house by the trailhead and in they went... Living the life!

Apollo has apparently become comfortable enough to make himself at home with us. He was passed out for about 30 minutes just like this.

I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Did the same thing once, but it was on the big island. A random friendly dog joined us in Kukuihaele, and walked all the way down to Waipio beach and back.

    So many awesome dogs!

Went snowshoeing in the "backyard" over the weekend with a friend and her little guy, Sparky. Sparky is 19 years old and a trooper! Zoe and Rosie look ginormous behind him!

This is sort of unstoke, but I could use some advice from responsible dog owners. I will keep this short. My neighbors have 2 pit bulls. They have been reported a few times over the past 18 months that I know of with one being a "minor biting" incident resulting in the quarantine of one pit. My personal experience up until today has been what I would call false charges, but 1 full-grown male and a smaller skinny male are intimidating when they sneak up on you. There is a lot of context as to the type of neighbors I have. Let's just say that 4 of the last 5 neighbors have been people most reasonable folks do not want to deal with...one was a super-mooch that took off with the landlords Jeep somehow, one was slinging drugs, so a constant stream of traffic, blah, blah, blah. It's a small town but close to skiing, so some compromises are expected.

Anyway, while shoveling around my driveway this afternoon, the neighbors pits got me. It happened quick. I heard a couple barks and looked up to both dogs right in front of me. I loudly blurted, whoa, whoa, then HEY as the smaller pit had circled around and got me on the elbow and underarm. No punctures wounds just blisters from the pressure of the bite.

Do I need to get checked out by a doc? This could be the dogs last offense, so do I report this? There's a damn hotel accross the street and the town hasn't done anything about these dogs. I am moving out of this neighborhood before years end, but this is new to me as far as biting dogs go. WWMD?

    Doggie stoke

That’s a tough one. My first thought is to report it... because if you don’t, it WILL happen again to someone else and it could be a lot worse.

As much as I love dogs that one is getting close to signing his own death warrant

Thanks for your reply. That's what I was telling the local cop last summer. I have witnessed or been involved in at least a half dozen incidences involving these 2 dogs, and it's just a matter of time before it escalates.

Reporting seems like the responsible thing to do for others safety and my own. Fuck, I like dogs, but aggressive biting dogs have never been something I have dealt with. At the moment, this all feels like a huge inconvenience for me...talking to the cops, filing a report, going to the doc, etc.

This happened at the end of a week of powder riding with my brother, so I was pretty spent. I was surprisingly calm yesterday, but now after a good nights rest, this situation is getting me worked up.

    Doggie stoke

Think about it this way: these bad dogs are making it a lot worse for other good dogs by changing perceptions of dogs in the neighborhood and the rules/laws around them. We report and control for bad dogs so we can allow some latitude and freedom to enjoy good dogs. If you treat good dogs and bad dogs the same, public safety concerns will eventually make it more difficult for any dogs to enjoy a good quality of life and for us to enjoy companionship with any dogs.

For the sake of the good dogs, please report the bad dogs.
    focus.

That’s a good call. One thing: try to refrain from calling them pit bulls if possible. Lots of ppl (not saying you) mis-ID dogs as pits who aren’t and it just perpetuates the myth that they are dangerous. Even if they are pits, it’s the owners not the breed that created the aggressiveness.

Spartacus loves him some XC. The dog has great trail manners for XC and mountain bikes, but has an easier time keeping up with my slow ass on XC. Bakerville bike path has been $$ for easing back into snow-sliding after total hip replacement (me, not the dog).

Our oldest child will be 11 this year, and haven’t noticed him slowing down a bit (the dog; I’ve slowed down plenty!)

This ^^^. Reporting the dogs is the right thing, IMO.

Bummed for the dogs and you all. We know many sweet and affectionate pits and pit mixes. They often have a very sweet temperament.

The most aggressive I’ve seen most pits is when they are looking to cuddle

Here’s Charly this AM after a good fetch session.
