Those are great looking Griffs and awesome shot in the snow.
They sure are a shaggy pair, how much stripping do you do? One of the reasons to go with this breed is they are supposedly low shedding but I'm not sure I'm believing that. Do yours shed much or can you control it with stripping/brushing?
It doesn't make a difference at this point, we're commited in all ways to the dog but still curious. It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

He said it's a mongrel but I'd guess there's a good bit of german shorthaired pointer in there.

I had a german-wired hair pointer, Otis, when I was young. As soon as my mom got pregnant with my little sis, he was gone. He was a cool dog, but high strung. He occasionally drug logs out of the fireplace (not when they were on fire).

From dictionary.com:
-----------------------------------------
mon·grel Pronunciation Key (mnggrl, mng-)
n.
1. An animal or a plant resulting from various interbreedings, especially a dog of mixed or undetermined breed.
2. A cross between different breeds, groups, or varieties, especially a mixture that is or appears to be incongruous.
adj.
Of mixed origin or character.
-----------------------------------------
To those blue-bloods of upper class society for whom racial purity is held in high regard, "mongrel" is an insult.
That said, here's my pure-bred Elkie atop Mt. Ellinor a couple weeks ago:
Pretty sure my next dog will be a mongrel from the pound. Looking for lab/shepherd, lab/husky, husky/shepherd, shepherd/chow or similar mixes.

A couple of new pics of my ten month old Caucasian Ovcharka Female "Wicca" hanging out at an observation pier.
Training pictures... Getting her used to opposition, in this case, the stick.
Working on full mouth bites.

never heard of that breed. Good looking dog, looks smart (I know that sounds weird, but some dogs just look smart, what can I say).

Thanks,
She has the oldest experssions I've ever seen for a ten month old pup...
At times she truly reminds one of a living statue.
They are not a popular breed, and for very good reason. my wife and I are delighted with her personality, but at the same time, see a very high potential for tragedy should the breed fall into ignorant or un-educated hands.
The breed truly deserves respect.
Here is a picture of myself testing her father.

Just out of curiosity Bandogge, why do you train these dogs? For the po-po?

I do indeed, do decoy work for the local city Police K9's once a week.
I also train (Not so much presently) in the dog sports, most involvment in the past has been with Sch. and French Ring.
My main area of experience however, is training personal protection dogs for applicable civilian/ business purposes... Some sentry work, but mostly personal protection.

and while im at it
a few pics of our mongrels
the river-dog Barney, now dearly departed
the obligatory black lab, Maliko, soaking up some sunshine
taking a nap
and modeling some climbing gear for sale, anyone need a harness?
and now my new girl, found sleeping in the middle of a logging road, sandy
as a wee pup
6 months old and taking care of that pesky german shepard at christmas
and napping after a long ski
Maliko and Sandy are pretty much stuck together at the hip

Ilikesnow, your black lab's face looks just like mine does. That looks like a great pair of dogs you have there! If it weren't so much work, I'd have 4-5 dogs instead of just two!

Oh yeah, Ilikesnow: what kind of dog is sandy?
Heres a pic of the dog I'm considering adopting:
Bear is a 2 and 1/2 year old sweetheart whose owner's job keeps him away from home for up to 15 hours. Bear needs more company and stimulation to keep him happy. Bear is neutered and up to date on all shots and heartworm preventative. He is crate trained, housetrained and a great boy whose only problem is that he can chew blankets when bored if left alone too long. He's an indoor dog who is great with other dogs, cats, and all the people he's met. When left alone in the company of another dog, he hasn't been destructive.Last edited by adam; 06-08-2006 at 09:56 PM.

shes a mix of things we think
I was out boating one day and found her on the drive home, seems like she got dumped out in the woods somewhere for no apparent reason. It was up in north western maine, so theres a chance she has a some combination of sled dog in there somewhere. Im guessing shes mostly german shepard/shepard and then something else. Everyone has their own particular recipe for what she might be, we even had some swear she was part corgi based completely on her ears.
If anyone else has an idea please chime in, but for now shes just a mutt.
Adam, no pic, description sounds good.

Hey Adam- another place to look if you're going to adopt a lab (if I remember correctly) is Safe Harbor Lab Rescue in Golden. www.safeharborlabrescue.org We got both of our labs from them, and they're awesome. They've got dogs available for adoption from 4 months to 10 yrs old.

Yeah I call Zippy a Mongrel because she is one and it sounds funny. My best guess is that she is 1/3 German Short-haired pointer, 1/3 Whippet/Greyhound or some sort of fast sight hound, 1/3 pitbull.
She's 1 1/2 years old and about 45 lbs.
She's too fast to get action pictures but here is a try.
