Re: dogs swimming, my old Border Collie was super funny about swimming. He refused to get into water if his feet weren't touching the ground. Run into the ocean on the beach, wade through streams? Fine. Get into pool or venture out farther? Hell no.

Then one day when he was 12 I was hiking with him up Blood Mountain on the AT and after we finished the up and back we went for a swim in a spring-fed lake at the bottom. Instead of his usual routine of barking at us from the shore while we swam he came running full steam into the cold water and swam straight out to us like he had been doing it every day for the past decade plus. Funniest thing was we couldn't get him out when we were done. He'd swim to shore and bark at us then dart right back in for another lap out to the deep bits trying to get us to follow - must have taken 45 minutes to get him back to the car.

He never stopped swimming from that day on; loved it. I sure miss the heck out of that dog.
I still call it The Jake.

Are you in Shasta full time these days? If so there's decent odds you know my old man.

Not full time, I was visiting my daughter and her family. I’m still in Santa Fe.

Is your old man a Murdoch?

Ha, was just at a wedding in McCloud in May. Almost should have brought my skis.

My WPG is my swimmer. He swims in this pond every day that it isn’t covered in ice. If I leave the pool open he’ll literally swim laps.

    Doggie stoke

Went outside for 2 minutes last night and found The Bitch on the couch with a weed pen. She'd broken it and was licking the oil.

Super scary night but after calling the vet we just had to keep her comfortable and let her ride it out. She couldn't really see...twitchy...super scared...legs completely useless...puked and pissed the couch.

She's finally coming back to earth this morning. I took the day off to stay with her and make sure she's hydrated and comfy.

Seems like she's going to sleep all day

Damn, poor pup. Lessons to be learned there. Our neighbor put a pan of brownies on their dryer to cool and their dog ate them. Poor pup. You can't leave stuff around with dogs

If interested, contact me, or post here and I will set you up. The person running it is reputable. She is Hazel's breeder.

In all fairness, that also describes me after hitting the pen too hard or a "these gummies ain't shit " moment.

Fuck, talk about scary things you'd never even think to be scared of your dog getting into. The oil is scary but... like splinters and glass shards etc.

But man, what, was she attracted to the smell or something? Of oil inside a pen?

Can't fault you for that one.

I went to a ski shop party once. The ski area had a few rental/retail shops, but the one I worked at just had like five employees, and no actual manager, just the head of rental/retail serving as our direct manager, but the guy was a former shop rat and was pretty chill, so one of the employees convinced the boss to get the ski area to foot the bill for a little end of season party for just the few of us in that shop. This context is important, because boss man also showed up, and one of theother co workers brought mushies. A couple of us just said no thanks, but I guess boss man felt some pressure to fit in and be one of the gang again and no just boss man so he he paid his own money for some, which he then did not eat, and threw in the bushes in the back yard. We figured this out later, because we noticed my dog was obviously freaking out, and then I remembered him snarfing after something in the bushes just after boss man was over there.

A blue heeler GSD wolf mix on mushies is pretty intense. Not like, aggressive, but just, man you could just tell dude was on one hell of a journey, and just really needed some cuddles for the next 12 hours or so. Like a long time.

We all gave my boss a ton of shit for it. He never admitted it.
