Training might be a better approach for a young dog, it will pay off a lot more than a GPS collar.
We're training him no doubt. I'm not just some dumb "Hey, stick a GPS collar on him and forget about it." The collar is for the time he bolts after some deer and leaves our yard. Even trained dogs will do this sometimes. The "invisible fence" aspect of one of those SpotOn collars is a good training tool in helping him learn where his boundaries are. The GPS tool is for when he actually takes a good little run when in the NF or something and he gets on the sent of something and recall is not working.

So far he has his recall really good. Sit and drop as well. Need to work on more commands. He's 11 weeks old so still just a baby.

The only big "issue" right now is wanting to wake us up to eat at like 330-4am every day. Even if he last ate at 9pm. We're feeding him quite more than the bag recommends. He has doubled in weight/size in like 3 weeks. Vet says he looks great and to keep feeding him what we are.

We cant figure out what to do about the super early whining. Needing to go out is one thing, but waking us up to eat? Is that just part of the deal when they are this young? Is it gonna become a habit and for the rest of his life he will expect super early breakfast? Trying to just ignore him isn't working. The "he'll soothe himself back to sleep in 10-20 minutes" thing isn't happing. He will whimper/whine/yelp for an hour straight at 4am. When we finally do feed him he acts like he has never eaten in his life. Goes absolutely insane to eat. We got him a puzzle/slow-feeder bowl because a regular bowl he was eating his whole meal in like 20 seconds or something crazy.

I am definitely guilty of moving the dog and crate to the back of my station wagon where I couldn't hear his dumbass at 3 am trying to get food and then feeding him at a normal time. They are growing super fast at that age.

My almost 1 year old is due to get neutered here soon, anyone have a good sense of the recovery period for that procedure?

Took him on a "hike" yesterday with the other pup. Only about a 1/2 mile and his recall was excellent. He does come charging over to me right away when I yell COME and put my hand down low with a treat in a closed fist palm up. He is getting used to riding in the crate in the back seat of the truck but gets a little scared if my GF or the other dog aren't also back there with him. Good pet barriers for double cab Tundras to keep him in the back seat? Basically turn the entire back seat into a big crate.

Last night for the first time he went into and slept in his crate 100% on his own at bedtime.
We got the bells you hang on the door and my wife taught the dog to swipe them to go out in like an hour. Really helpful to have an audible cue that isn't the dog barking.

Yeah we are feeding him some well rated stuff.

I think we sort of had a breakthrough last night. I took him out to pee at 3am and straight back to bed. He already started his "I'm hungry" noises and trying to jump on the bed etc. We just 100% ignored him as if he didn't exist. A few minutes here and there of him trying to get our attention but he mostly slept. At 6:15 he was dead quiet snoozing so I gently woke him up and we went downstairs to eat. Rewarded him for being nice and quiet. He's so smart he will get it pretty quick.

Stitches out, cone off, and all tucked in after a bath. What a trooper.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

There’s some pure annoyance in those eyes.
