Cooper can definitely be intense. His prey drive forced us to drop 10k on a physical fence, as the invisible fence would not stop him if he saw a bunny, deer or heard his “girlfriend” bark down the street. Love the Yoda ears on the terrier! Looks inquisitive.
Hike today. BTW- hates wearing his coat - ears drop down and he goes and hides when he sees it come out. It’s almost like- “what will the other dogs say if they see me wearing this? I’ll be laughed out of the dog park! No body will want to play with me”

I like how it's black and white, but in color.

Dude knew something life altering was about to happen.
The last picture of Oso as a real man. Rest in peace his nuts. They were real beauties.
In recovery, pick him up at 3.

We were aiming for 1 year to do the snip but he is closer to 13 months since his birthday is Xmas week. We decided to give him time to shape into a man dog. The vet neither endorsed nor did they object to waiting a bit longer as is the current trend.
He is pretty mellow today, recovering nicely on my day off. Good to be with him. He is wearing a coat instead of a cone.
He is named after Mt. Oso, a remote 13er in the San Jauns, on the flanks of which we spread my sisters ashes. He's a good little bear though too!

Thanks, I'll be curious to hear how his behavior difference is since I've not waited that long to do the snip. I've had good results with going the 6-month mark but it appears there has been more research into health benefits for waiting longer.
Behavior is our main concern having young kids around so we prefer mellow to manly, but lucky our boys have been super sweet.I still call it The Jake.

After reading about getting dogs altered fucking up their hormones, I have decided in the future it will be like we do for humans (vasectomy or tubes tied) to maintain the hormones they need later in life. My Malamute has to take estrogen now so as to not have accidents when relaxed.

Same with him, super sweet. Also he never got annoyingly horny or anything like our Aussie did. He did get a bit aggro around other male dogs but just making noise trying to prove he is boss.
We set the goal for a year and would have cut it short if he turned into a man prick. Not a big deal either way and the science is pretty opaque.
Current status...not wearing his anti lick coat while I'm watching him...since he knows the rules.

We're getting a new male puppy next month and have started to discuss the snip. My wife is kicking around the idea of keeping him whole to potentially breed him someday, but I'm afraid that would make him aggressive/dominant with our current male 6yo dog. I've also heard that they tend to roam more if not neutered?
I do wish we had been able to wait longer to have our current dog neutered. He was a rescue so it was done early and I think waiting would've been better.
