    Antibiotics?

Do they ever go bad? What kind of shelf life do they really have?

All medicines have about a 1-2 year shelf life and become less potent after time....

It's going to mostly depend on the exact drug (there are many classes of antibiotics) and, to a small extent, which company makes it.

Hmm. I just found an old bottle of Amoxacilin (spelling) in the back of the bathroom cabinet from about 5 years ago and didn't know if it was worth keeping for those occasional sinus infections without having to go to the doctor.

...junk it- too old- and try staying away from p-fedrine when you're getting a sinus problem- just makes it worse.

Five years is purty old, especially if stored at room temperature.

    I say chuck it.

In the future, store your meds in the fridge.

    I'll PM you my bill.

most antibiotics are prescribed so as to finish the amount you have in the bottle. if you have leftovers you did not follow the doctor's orders.
that is how germs become antibiotic resistant.
if medications are to be stored in the fridge, it would say so on the bottle.
    throw away those outdated meds!!

BEWARE certain antibioitics decay into toxic forms, not just less potent ones.

You should finish all prescribed courses of antibioitics even if you feel better.
