Beartooth Pass finally opened for the season Friday, closed again either late Friday night or early Saturday morning, and reopened noon-ish on Saturday. Took the truck Saturday to allow Friday night's snow to melt off, but Sunday was perfect motorcycle weather.

How did the mounting work out for you? I have yet to come up with a great idea how to mount skis on my KTM 690. The A frame appears to be the only way to go.

With the Happy Trails racks, the tails slide in just inboard of the rack and I use a pair of Voile (or similar) straps around the metal box frame, between the sidebox and the frame, and around the skis. The only big downside I've found is that the heelpiece of the inboard ski rubs on the top box, which is fine with the STHs but problematic with Dynafits and the protruding adjustment screw. I wouldn't particularly trust this setup on anything rougher than a gravel road, though.

I have ridden with skis diagonal-carried on the backpack, too, which works okay until you go to get off the bike and forget you've got a ski tail dangling below the backpack.

Hum, I am considering going from Jackson to Beartooth this weekend. Paved roads but about 150 miles one way. I am probably most concerned about things that will wear on that long of a trip.

Got my first dirt bike a few weeks back. 08 YZ250. It’s a blast but is making me lazy and I haven’t ridden my mtn bike since I bought it. Oh well.

I guess It all depends on the bike, but with the skis resting on the rear pegs and voile straps, the skis were not noticeable at all on the NC 700. Such a great way to get up to the hill!

For the trail heroes out there, here is a screaming deal on the worlds best folding hand saw. This is about 1/4 what they usually go for.

    Great deal^

I have this one for my ride, since nothing worse them having to turn around miles down the trail because of a tree down.

Just because it's called "The Corkscrew" doesn't mean you have to spin through it.

Riding deep in the Gros Ventre today. First proper deep river crossing, best suited for walking next to the bike. First Sage Grouse sighting. Lots of miles on gravel, into many new corners for me. Click image for larger version.
