If you haven't already, check out Tony's Track Days. Great organization, well-run events with street-rider-friendly rules (i.e. it's not just a racer practice day, which some other organizations seem to be).

Also, be aware that the first track day can be very expensive, because it may lead to more track days.

Penguin Racing Racing is also an excellent well run operation steeped in tradition (if that gives you wood) and a little cheaper - owned and still run by a very old friend, Jerry Wood.

A suggestion - dependent on what you are trying to accomplish. If you aim to improve technique and want to learn to go quicker. Rent the bike. If punching false neutrals, using up a set of brake pads, scrubbing a few thousand miles off your tires and lashing the shit out of your powerplant and driveline in 1,2,3 days... thrash someone else's machine is preferable.

If your after a more intimate understanding of your own wheels... well then

Ever watch the show on YouTube called MC Commute? Dude from Motorcyclist Magazine rides bikes into the office. Generally some good hooligan-ing and wheelies and backing it in going on. I don't really like watching bike reviews, but these ones are pretty good.

IDK man I only saw a 1st gear wheelie there, he *might* have shifted into 2nd. I highly doubt you're pulling it up in 2nd on the highway. definitely not "easily", if it all. The 700, yeah probably. That looks a lot more fun IMO, 70 hp, 51 torque.. but whatever man I'm sure you'll have fun on the 400 too. Post up pics if you get it

Just got mah gurl out this morning:
She's a beaut, in an ugly sort of way. Sort of like myself

    133 bhp, 82 ft/lbs of torque + Brembo radial monoblocs = fun . Inline 3 cylinder 1050cc engine + Remus cans = aural sex

He actually mentions in the video (near the beginning) that the 401 can do 2nd gear wheelies.

    Watch 2:35 to 3:00.

JFC man, fine, it can do 2nd gear wheelies!

at least, according to a British motojournalist who never actually showed doing one... But sure, it probably can. I can wheelie my Dad's Harley in 2nd too, if I time the fork bounce just right with the bar pull as I clutch the fuck out of it. Really hard to get the timing and technique right, I'd probably fuck it up 4 times out of 5.

Similarly, that 44 HP bike is not gonna wheelie "pretty easily" in 2nd, which was what I called bullshit on. I stand by that

Can you please not post spoilers, at least for a couple of days after the race? I realize I could just stay off the internet, but TGR is usually safe in that regard, even in this thread.

Because we rarely kill ourselves, and our wife's have to put up with our whiney asses while we recover, or worse yet chair our drool buckets because we become gibbering idiots.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...
