This is some of the saddest news in skiing I have heard. That is all I can say.

"Let the waitress put the chairs up,
let the glasses that you broke,
form a picture of our leader
with a halo made of smoke.
Let the golden oldies station
crackle and come through.
With a final benediction
we'll hum along to.
Before we say goodnight
Let our talk about the ball game
and the weather show we care.
Like a sound we didn't notice,
until it stopped and left us there.
With the traffic and our heartbeats
beating in straight time,
let our hatred and affection
march in the same line,
Before we say goodnight.
Oh, protect our secret handshake
once more with feeling.
Let the toast to absent members
push through the ceiling.
Before we say goodnight."

As I read through this I was talking to snowrider and neither of us can believe this is for real. I have a wierd erie feeling running through me right now like someone just stole part of my energy. Snowrider reminded me that he ran into him up on Cody when we were out in Jackson and we both remarked that this is so surreal.
My thoughts are with his wife, child and friends. Truly a sad day in skiing history.

Tremendously sad and an enormous dose of reality and humility to all of us that venture out of bounds.

No, no, no. This is truly tragic. I ran into Doug in Jackson at the the base of Cody after he and his party ripped some big turns down Pucker. Prayers will certainly be said in the coming weeks.

Memorial video
Doug will be added to my www.homage.us website
Please send any images to baconzoo@gmail.com quotes and group photos of his friends are appreciated as well.
I left a message at Valdezheliskiguides that I would like to produce a video memorial. Anyone in Jackson who might know of a get together or service should contact me and I'll send a DVD.

I'm too young to have really noticed Trevor's death 10 years? ago now, like so many people here did, but this really hits home. Watching old TGR flicks of Doug arcing through chest deep blower or down impossibly steep faces in Europe or AK inspires me to love skiing and to push myself. Every interview I've ever read/seen with him has always been about positivity and a love for the sport of skiing, whether it was skiing groomers at Vail or a gnarly line in Cham. He was a true ambassador for our sport. He will be missed.
So many vibes and prayers for his wife, child and friends.
