    Colleges suck

Today was the big day for the acceptances/ rejections. Damn, I thought I would have done better. But, fuck those we rejected me. I went 4/7

    Got into:

    U Puget Sound (Tacoma, Washington)
    UVM (Burlington, Vermont)
    CU Boulder (Boulder, Colorado)
UMASS, Commonwealth College, BIOTAP Program (Amherst, Mass)

    The rejections:

    McGill University (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
    Colorado College (Colorado Springs, Colorado)
    Tufts University (Medford, Mass)

Well, that sums it up. I don't know what my final decision is yet. Any thoughts?

    I'm still waiting on:
    University of Wahington @ Seattle
University of British Columbia @ Vancouver

    Accepted by:
    Suny Binghamton
    University of Vermont
    University at Buffalo (SUNY)

    Rejected by:
    Boston University
    Cornell University
And probably Tufts University (Still waiting, but strongly doubting it)

If I get into UW or UBC I'm going in a heartbeat, otherwise probably UVM over Binghamton, but I don't know.

Go where you think you'll be most happy. That pretty much what I plan on doing.

Umass Amherst is a big school with big classes. It was very easy for an unfocused kid like myself to skip and no one knew. I didn't make it very long. I also did the commute-from-home thing since I was from the area, this made things even worse.

As far as skiing, the BEAST is close by. Jiminy Peak isn't that far either.

Come to UPS. Crystal/Alpental are sickness. Snow is better than in CO or VT. You would have an instant ride to the mountains/ upperclassman party house

Seriously...I need more UPS kids to ski with. Everyone I ski with is really old (sorry Gabe, Cliff, Will, and Steve....but come on. Im not ever 20 )

I also was born and raised in Boulder....and it is really hard to go wrong at CU. Hot girls, cool town and dope parties, great weather and access to anything outdoors, decent skiing that is kind of close....

I went to HS 100 yards from CU, though, and lived in Boulder my whole life, so I really felt inclined to get the fuck out of there.

Seriously...of those 4 that you got accepted to, IMO, I would really only consider CU or UPS. Why stay on the east coast....come ski out west. Both schools offer good skiing and a great education. I guess it kind of depends on what size school you want...

    CU = 30,000
    UPS = 2,500

very very different dynamic regarding class size. For example...my largest class thus far at UPS has been 35 people. I've had classes of 11. my friends at CU are in classes sometimes 10x as big as mine.

money wise...I'm pretty sure CU out-of-state is pretty close to what you pay at UPS...which is honestly ridiculous as CU is a public school...

another thing to consider.....Tacoma is Tacoma, and Boulder is Boulder. not going to sugar coat tacoma...some fucked up shit happens here. There was a triple murder 5 blocks from campus about 1.5 months ago, It was a hit/robbery, but there is a level of crime in Tacoma that is not existent in Boulder. I really don't notice it that much, but shit does happen on occation.

I guess PM/post me if you have an specific questions.

I like UPS a lot. I'm currently pre-med and getting my ass kicked. I'm glad I got out of Boulder, but I was there for 18 years before I did so, so that plays a part in it for sure.
Seriously, this can’t turn into yet another ON3P thread....

From a UW alum to a prospective student:

    Winter quarter schedule:
    7:00am wake-up
7:15-45 load car, head to Alpental
    9:00 start making turns
12:00pm call it a day and head back to Seattle
2:00-5:00 attend class/study (drop the course load down to 10 credits)
    5:30-10/11 work (restaurant preferably)
    11:00-2:00am Drink or study
    2:00am Sleep

Repeat tomorrow. I lived it 96-2001, it's worth it, especially if you land a 98-99 winter.

UVM!!!! I went to uvm from california, and I love it. The skiing isn't worse, its just different. After a 60 day season here, i was doing things that i didn't think i would ever do. Once you learn how to ski EC trees at mach speeds with solid ice underfoot, you have no fear, of anything, i will huck up to 30ft into a 15 ft landing before you hit trees with no hesitation. As for college, all my profs are kick ass, and all the people are sweet too, but there are a lot of hippies
Three fundamentals of every extreme skier, total disregard for personal saftey, amphetamines, and lots and lots of malt liquor......-jack handy

    Possible majors:

    Biology
    Pre-Med
    Biomedical Engineering

Get the picture. Pre-med is top choice so far.

Don't feel bad, waaaay back in the day, I got into the University of Alberta, the University of Western Ontario and the University of Victoria, but got harsh denied from Queens.... that's no surprise.

I hear Boulder is a good place to go to school... why would you want to go to school in Montreal anyway? There's no skiing there!
    Believe.

    So here are my thoughts.

Boulder is too big. Just too much partying. Boulder is Boulder, as everyone says.

UPS is far away. Its my number one-ish choice but I have a girlfriend not wanting me to go to Washington.

UMASS- Almost too big, but I got into their honors college. Really sweet. And the BIOTAP program is for only 40 kids. Again, pretty sweet.

UVM- I'de go there. Nothing JUMPS right out and says "im the best"

    I donno...

I'd go with Boulder man... probably the nicest of the school campuses with the mountains close by. Wouldn't mind spending 4 years in Boulder. Great outdoor down. WOuldn't know from experience but probably good nightlife too...

Update, I just found out I got denied from Tutfs too.

I wouldn't let a girlfriend keep you from doing what you want. I mean I don't know how serious it is, but if your not home, your not at home....

Go have fun for your undergrad... just be responsible at times and get shit down... something I did and I'm sure as hell glad I did.

Grad school is where you turn it up

Boulder isn't too big. Big is good. Big means lots of hot girls, school spirit, good sports teams, etc... way more people to meet and party with.

There's is no Manchester by the Sea in NH. Manchester by the Sea is the full name of the town in MA. It's a cool town, I used to drive up there alot when I lived in Boston and wanted to get away from the city.

DON"T MAKE A DECISION BASED ON A GIRL!!!

Otherwise, UVM all the way. Best school for undergrad of the bunch, and though there are dirty hippies all over the place in burlington, at least they're not dirty begging hippies like they are in Boulder.

Plus, if you do well, you'll have a better relationship with the professors and will be able to transfer easier (smaller class sizes).

I live in Boulder and have lived in Burlington, VT. Didn't do undergrad at either school (did CU for grad school). Both towns kick ass, and both schools can provide you all that you need. But, both schools will require discipline because the distractions are immense (but they're good distractions). If you are reasonably disciplined, you couldn't go worng with either place (as far as a location to go to school). But the girls wear less clothes at CU.
