Harry makes a good, fair point -
a sad commentary on our society...
I have a friend who has lost several dogs in the last twenty years -
my friend needs the dogs, and hates leashes for a couple of reasons that are not my point.
The risk of losing the dogs is known. and an accepted risk, given the complications of the situation ;
most of all, I am Sad for the dog - likely oblivious to the threat the car posed.
wishing peace for all involved.
Harry makes a good, fair point.
thanks. skiJ

Hey all, thanks for the well wishes and the discussion. I know it wasn't exactly our fault, but it helps to hear it from others. Feel really bad for that other dog owner regardless.

God, so sorry for your loss Bend. Duffy looks like an amazing companion and great friend. Here's hoping that doggy heaven is full of endless rawhide bones, balls, and squirrels to chase.

X-post from Snow in the PNW.
Its been a little over 2 months. Found a contractor on short notice, house is fully torn out and we're almost putting the roof sheathing back on, almost ready to smoke seal and actually start rebuilding the inside. We've got a rental in town, everything is meh. Can't get a puppy for another couple months at least with prior scheduling stuff. Hippy neighbors are making urns for them. They're sitting on the fireplace insert next to me. Hopefully we'll be in late this fall? Who the fuck knows.
And to boot, we got our nice mtn bikes stolen our 5th day in the rental and if we make another claim on our homeowners policy, we're sure to get dropped. They had Koa and Olives collars on them.

I haven't posted on here much in a while. This community has shaped my life over the past decade and change, from being a high schooler smashing bumps on Nash trying to find out what bindings won't pull out of my skis and stumbling over this place, to conceiving a dream, and accomplishing it, working at Mt. Baker for patrol, my dream job, and so much more.
Some friends made this for my family. We're bad at asking for help but we need it for this one.
We had a small house fire, lost our 10yr old lab, 2 yr old mcnabb, and puppy, and are now looking to tear out and rebuild. Not sure yet if insurance is gonna back us for the whole process.
If anyone knows any contractors around Bellingham that aren't booked a year out, that would be super helpful too. We're trying to get on someones calendar before we work through the insurance so we might be able to rebuild this summer

Thanks everyone for the condolences. Duffy outlived the six months the vet gave him by another 5. He had a rough week, and let Mrs.theski know Sunday morning that it was time. Such a little trooper, and I had worried the wife would never be able to let him go.
Emergency vet had a nice non-exam feeling room, with kind of dim lighting. The staff were super-nice and respectful of the difficult process for us. I guess that was one blessing; once we knew it was time, it all just kind of fell in place. Of course the emotional piece keeps catching up to us, and our other two seem a little lost. I think it’s going to be a while before it fully sinks in and we find our new normal.

Vibes!
I had a Scottie named Duffy as a kid.
He would follow kids to school every day. Elementary, Jr & Sr. High, he was inside every school in the District at some point.
Went missing during a huge snowstorm.
Found him frozen in a snow bank a couple of weeks later.

Our Duffy obeyed voice commands for about 6 months before deciding our yelling was just a “suggestion”. After that we fenced the front yard, which in hind-sight we should have done from day one. I had him on a lead in the back yard last fall, and he somehow got loose and wandered off. He only went about a block before some girls at the dog park noticed his trailing leash and held onto him, but hooooleeeee fuck, the flash of panic I felt, trying to think of ways to tell mrs.theski that her boy had wandered off into the wilds damn near gave me a heart attack!
Young Butters is already benefiting from lessons we learned from Duff, but all bets are off when a Scotty’s off leash.
New kid on the block chillin’ with the old guard.

Well we knew the day would finally come, and there seemed to be plenty of time leading up to the inevitable at the end to try and process, but man, it’s tough.
A few weeks ago we said goodbye to Beatrice aka Bea aka BeaBea aka sweet Bea aka queen Bea aka dingus mingus aka wookie monster. She was the best. A newfy/golden retriever. My wife had her about a year before we met and started dating. I’ve lived with them both the past almost 12 years. She was a constant in our lives. Our ‘first child’ and the gentlest little bear. She was one month shy of 15 years old, and had a wonderful life full of love, both given and received.
I still think I hear her walking around the house or catch her out of the corner of my eye. Not sure we’ll ever get used to her not being around.
