If you didn't see all the shit they're setting up in those "disjointed scenes," you're not paying attention. Except, really, for the last episode, I loved this season.
The last episode was a little gimmeabreak-ish, with Chris just sort of deciding to quit the H, and AJ getting straight all of a sudden. And where did all of Tony and Carmela's existential angst go?It's idomatic, beatch.

The mafia aspect adds some tension and adds some depth to the conflicts, but the real meat of the show is in Tony's sessions with Melfi, and how he chooses to face his problems.
If you can't grasp this nuance, you might want to stick to simpler TV fare, like American Idol. I heard they do a great job of setting up conflict and resolving it in the next episode.
I wasn't a huge fan of this season, because i thought too much time was given to the brokeback sopranos plotline (which wasn't really original or compelling in anyway, well, except for the unintentional comedy factor of a character named johnnycakes); but, Tony's decisions, viewed in perspective against his character in early seasons, show a guy who has truly changed, and thats reason enough to watch, IMO.Last edited by stump832; 06-13-2006 at 12:01 PM.

i didnt like this season b/c it was too slow not b/c i didnt understand it. its not a very complex idea. a mob family going through turmoil w/ drugs, murders, deception and sex to fill the void. gotta love the complexity of that. i didnt think this season lived up to its expectations from previous years imo. ill stick to entourage and rescue me from now on and watch sopranos when i need soem life lessons.

Late 90's I went back to live near my Mom, who was in her 80's at the time. I was around for the last dozen years of her life, and amongst other shared pleasures maybe the best was our regular Sunday night viewing of The Sopranos. Watched the whole run together. Good times. The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Streaming on HBO/Max now; watched part 1 last night. First twenty minutes is a quick Chase bio, then it gets into Sopranos creation, casting, etc, and rolls through the first season. Good stuff if you're a fan. Gonna watch part 2 tonight. The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.
