Booster Straps: Over shell or just over tongue?

I've been told that the straps should be used UNDER the shell for 2-piece boots and OVER the shell for 3-piece (hinged tongue, a la Flexon, Denali, Lazer, Mega Ride, etc.) boots.

I use mine (3-strap version) over the tongue of my Denalis.

Yep - I can't get them to fit under the tongue of a g-ride

Over the shell - Tecnica race 130

It seems to deform the shell plastic and puts the buckles at an akward angle if you put it under the shell, so I just use it in place of the stock strap.
