Dude, that is an incorrect statement.

If the guy goes off a booter for instance, his velocity is actually negative in the down direction, which is the way you would measure terminal velocity. Then he'll pass through vel = 0 and continue to accelerate until he reaches terminal velocity, which he'll sustain until he hits the ground. If he's in a vacuum, like on the moon for instance, he'll just continue to accelerate until he hits the ground.

Go back to your basic equations of motion. It's all right there, derived from F=ma...

There is no Terminal Velocity in a frictionless environment... you would continue accelerating until you hit something (most likely the source of the gravitational force.) Terminal Velocity is where the friction of the air slowing you down cancels out the propulsive force of gravity. You fall at a steady rate of speed.

and a velocity of 36FPS is actually around 24.5MPH.

What others have said. Put simply, "terminal velocity" doesn't mean that it's so fast you die. "Terminal," here, means final -- as fast as you can go given the environmental factors.

Also, for record-setting, what are the criteria for the landing -- survival? walking away? clearly not sticking the landing, since Pierre apparently did a perfect one-point.

From a little research, it seems that it takes about 9 to 10 seconds to reach terminal velocity in an arched skydiving position. That's a lot more than 300 feet of falling.
