I'd probably put the SJ over the Snake, as cool as the summit rap is. I'd put the Trilogy variation over the SJ, though. My personal favorite cooler in the San Juans was posted a couple pages back. Dead Squirrel is such a long perfect hallway. It's not even that gnar, it's just that couloirs rarely stay that perfect for close to 3K, especially in CO. Just my $.02, and we have nothing better to do these days than argue about fun couloirs

ha! I was gonna say that the snake isn't even the best couloir on sneffels, but its the only one i've skied so what do i know

So fortunate that this is how I ended my season this year on March 5th. First ever trip to JHMR and the conditions made several laps in Granite canyon possible. A1, endless, and B chute, my first real supper long couloir skiing experience. Will return!!!

This thread is an uplifting and positive distraction vs. some other threads and facebook right now. Thanks to all for keeping threads like this going It gives me a place to go while I'm not skiing and reminds me what I love about the mountains

^^^Those are beauties, BFG. If the second or third ones happen to be in the Sierra, I'd love to get more info in a PM.

I would like to make a trip to Canada some day to ski some of the beauties posted here. I also find San Joaquin to be very aesthetically pleasing.

Based on what I've personally skied, here are some of my local nominations (and photos) in no particular order:

(1) TC seems crowded these days and it's not particularly steep. But it's just a very cool and distinctive line and a tremendously fun ski.


(2) RS could easily be one the 50 Classics. It's aesthetic, steep, and sustained for about 2k.


(3) This unnamed beauty in the Sierra. It's about 6k', starts off around 40 degrees and then quickly mellows out to 30-35. It's south-facing, which means the stars have to align to ski it though.


(4) P is like TC but longer and mostly wider. If you get it in the right conditions, it's super fun.


(5) No one seems to talk about LPP and few seemed to have skied it, but I think LPP's couloir is very, very rad. It's steep (45ish), it goes directly from the summit, the mountain and line are as aesthetic as hell, and once you're done with the couloir, the "apron" is 4k' of 40-35 degree skiing.

(6) G's north couloir is steep, intimidating, aesthetic, and fun.


(7) M isn't as classically couloiry in appearance as the others, but this is one of the best lines in the Sierra. It's sustainedly steep (50-40) for over 3k', historic, highly visible, and so aesthetic that it was used as the backdrop for the Paradise Planet in one of the Star Trek movies. It's also a ridiculously fun ski.

Beartooth moutains. the second two I imagine are skied often probably a few TR here on then. The first one is over 12 miles from the trailhead so probably does not get skied as often.

Full 900m Coulie up the Tonquin Valley. To put into perspective Funnel of Death on bow peak is 600m, Granddaddy is just over 300m. The 20km approach in winter is a bit shit but theres a host of other dope couloirs up there.


Like this one, about 700m from fan to top and 300m of fan after. nice and steep at the top just over 55degrees for about 100m then 200 of still steep 50 then 400m of just cruising 45degrees.





South Couloir off Mt Burgess. Right off the transcanada! another super rad line. about 800m in the couloir but mostly 35-40 degrees just go for a rip. The south exposure makes good conditions tougher to time but we ripped solid pow T2B
