I *really* liked this years movie. ...and you know what? I *really* like the actual commercials too. Alone the Xterra ads are pretty cool, and when they break up the monotony of Pharmaceuticals and cell phones, they're even better.

the sound tracksucked? we started the movie with Metalica then went into some bowie, then into crystal method and that's just the intro. then josh 1 with olenicks seg. which turns into boy sets fire with their AK seg. which did not suck! those fuckin guys killed it in alaska. Everyone sits around saying, "sure olenick can do rails and hit kickers and win the x-games, but can he ski?" i'm willing to bet that he can and his little brother is a little fuckin nut ball too. But back to the music. after that we go into chris collins richter seg to a crazy metal song. a seg that he hasn't pulled out in years since he busted himself in the creek in BC. throwin 7's off kickers and some of the biggest back flips and double backs that i've never seen before. (and this year, he's aiming for the triple) Then throw in some songs by citizen cope, a pyramid gap seg to the soothing sounds of a wu tang clan colaboration with jedi mind tricks featuring a sample from frank sinotra. a jackson song from lou reed covering a david bowie song "waiting for the man". I think i've proved my point. Maybe if we want to have a soundtrack that rivals the rest we should just stack the movie with euro-trash english dance music. Seriously, if you liked watching "Lame" then stop buying new movies and just keep watching that one. I'm willing to bet that Truth is the type of person that watches a ski movie without even looking at the skiing. Probably cant tell is someone is spinning natural or un-natural and wouldn't know a nobis straight line from a spine line. which is why he likes watching pow segs and people skiing terrain that he can ski. i'm done with the truth. Anyone else wana burn beef in my kitchen? cause i'm clearin out the smoke.

What *is* with the whole natural/un-natural thing? Want to spin that way? fine by me! The other? It's your choice, my friend!

what would you know? you dont even know how to spin. i bet you dont even know what your natural spin is. if you do, just try standing on flat ground and spinning unnatural. then imagine you're doing an unnatural 450 on to a double kinked rail to a natural off. Then think about doing an un natural 3 over a 70 foot crevass in AK like sage does is soul purpose. seriously, do you even know why sage is so good? or do you just think he's good because everyone else says he is?

I always thought "Waiting for the man" was a Lou Reed tune but the interenet seems a bit unclear on the point, they both recorded it in 1972 though. The sound track was a bit hip-hoppy for me, but I'm old and Bowie, Bowie/Reed, Citizen Cope, Metallica are all right in my wheelhouse.

I personally liked the flick and what's more important for the future of TGR is that my kid (who's seen ski porn all his life and is now just about to turn 11) thinks it's absolutely sick. He rates it with "Immersion" as his favorite ever and I think he might have stuck "Immersion" in there for the old man.

I know it's your baby and all, Tate, but try not to take things so personally, it's better for your blood pressure.

I'm not here to defend the movie. I'm here to call you maggots out on being wrong. The soundtrack does not suck. if you didn't like a few songs, fine. but you cant tell me that the movie has too much hip-hop when there's only 3 out out of the 33 song that are hip-hop (pyramid gap, olenick, and turkey) And i refuse to believe that the olenicks sucked in AK. maggots are saying it and magazines said it. And its wrong. people say that are movie is all big mountain and its not. look at the roster. its all jibbers. they're just not in the terrain park. I just wonder if people have even seen these movies before they critique them.

Dude, I said it's a little too hip-hop FOR ME, you can't tell me I'm wrong about that because it's my opinion. I tried to tell you I liked the flick and a lot of the music but it's obvious you'd rather get all up in people's faces, suit yourself man.

    dammit. you got me.

the only reason there is "unnatural/natural" terminology in skiing/freeskiing is because snowboarders have a backside and a front side. initiating a spin blind is very different that seeing yourself through your first 180 on a snowboard. skiiers have no blind side, but apparently some prefer spinning in one direction over another, thus we have natural and unnatural. this is a recent phonomenon that has precipitated since skiers started doing grabs, which they also started doing because snowboarders were doing them because they were copying skateboarders who were grabbing because they had to so they they wouldn't lose their boards when they caught air. no one ever got extra points in skiing freestyle arial competitions in 1987 for doing a triple twisting quad in an "unnatural" direction.

this has nothing to do with how good at skiing sage is.

p.s. i was trying to keep things light hearted when i started this thread because you were at work late and pissed off for some reason and were crapping in a lot of threads on friday night. you don't know me and have never skied with me. we all know you edit for TGR. good for you. i'm 26, been skiing since i was 2 and snowboarding since I was 8. i know how to spin. here is a picture of me cletus took a few years back. too bad i'm not spinning. relax dude.

thanks for the compliment. i'm glad you liked the movie. I'm only using the TGR movie as an example. I cant really talk shit about other peoples movies and i'd love to, but its just bad for biz. I'm talking about reviews in general. when i read somewhere that travis rice put together a sick seg in Soul Purpose? dude, he wasn't in that movie! And why does it seem like i'm always reading shit talk about TGR on our fuckin forum? People advertize their movies, tours and even write apologies and run customer service for their competeing film companies on our forum. And we dont care, and shouldn't care. but why all the negative TGR posting? things that go beyond the film. Like that we're sell outs, we're going the way of warren miller, and shit like that. Then you come out to jackson for a maggot sumit and we bend over backwards to make you feel at home and welcome you. it just seems disrespectful. But post what you want. just be careful. the person or company you write about is reading it.

How the hell are you going to survive in a creative profession if you can't accept that what you create is subjective. Everybody decides for themselves whether it was "good" or not. All "good" means to the viewers is that they enjoyed it.

If you're going to keep your sanity you need to start accepting the fact that some people are not going to like the stuff you create. Period.

It has no bearing on anything, but I happened to like the flick AND the soundtrack.

It's all personal preference. I personally thought Tangerine was OK, just not great. For whatever reason, a lot of other people think the same thing. For me, High Life was the best movie for TGR and all the others I've seen in the last 4 years. Soul Purpose and Tangerine were good but lacked something that High Life didn't. Bottom line is, if you create a product for the market and the market doesn't respond, who's right, the market or Tate?

Ah, young grasshoppa...it's a double edged sword with which you swing. I have no qualms about the current TGR business model. God bless Fred for putting you in the black. The NBC, Fuel, Nissan gigs are all good things. Just don't kid yourselves into believing that those who really watch won't know that they've seen the b-reel footage in Untracked months prior to the films release. Kinda takes some of the novelty out of the whole thing for me. Also, don't kid yoursleves that you can remain on the cutting edge of ski porn and satisfy the big money sponsors at the same time. The bigger you get the more watered down the product has to become to appeal to wider and wider audiences. The renegade spot you held for the first 3 flicks has been traded for profits. Nothing wrong with that, it just is what it is. Unfortunately the audience here in these forums doth not represent the masses. We support TGR and we do it with our wallets as well as our souls, but that does not preclude me from honest critiques of your work. Besides, Fred has a much hotter tate to kiss than you ever will.

    Smooches,

    truth

you dont seem to get it. Fuck the tangerine dream! forget that i'm the editor and that i want people to like my shit. this isn't about me. its about the maggots being out of line and talking shit about the company (not talking about critiquing and having opinions) that works so hard to make them happy. i for one am fine if people on this forum that hate me. that's why i have so much fun on here. say anything, do anything. total free speech. I just think its a little dis-respectful to talk so much shit about the company that allows your voice to be heard. but if you really want to do it, go a head i cant stop you. I'm done, this thread is finished.
