I'll admit I loved that flick way back in the day.

But I can't even get throught it anymore. I tried about 3 years ago and it was fuckin awful. The dialogue makes me cringe.

    Good luck.

I went on an ebay binge and got Aspen Extreme, ski school, hot dog, and frostbite last month. I can't find ski patrol on DVD though. The main theme of all ski movies is getting drunk and having awsome sex all while attempting to win respect from the Upper Class or winning their Mountian back. I love the oldschoolness. That was a sweet word I just made up; oldschoolness.

I, too, own it on Laserdisc...

Finally watched Ski Patrol the other night (streaming on Prime). Man, does Out Cold owe pretty much everything to that film, at least storywise (I do have to admit that Out Cold is technically a better film, at least in terms of exposition, character development, and just being more coherent and streamlined, but it ain't nearly as chaotic and gonzo as Ski Patrol...)

I think I’ve posted this here before, but this movie is both dumb and profound…it gets some things so correct, broad strokes about the process of leaving Michigan for a ski town, about making life work in a fancy place, mixing working class people living and working amongst the richest people on the planet, getting sucked into the resort drug scene, the process of absolute wonderment arriving in a place like that slowly turning into a kind of jadedness… The sketchy fumbling around in the mountains that goes on as flatlanders figure it all out. The resignation moment of deciding to move back to Michigan.
Honestly, whoever wrote it really did understand a lot of dynamics at work in ski towns…aside from the goofy shit and nonsense they hung on a pretty sturdy skeleton of an experience a lot of us shared, being skiers someplace small, facing a big decision to leave everything and go to a ski town to chase dreams…being in over our heads. What does it take to be the lifer who stays forever? Do you even want that? Nothing is free: TJ gets to stay and save his struggling buddy by choosing money over love, being owned as a pet, he gets to be a “real writer” by way of losing his best friend.

    Skiing is the easy part.

The movie itself is hilarious. Top it off with the skiing of Doug Coombs and Scot Schmidt and you have a watch it at least 1x every year type classic

"We're not curing cancer.. we're showing people how to go down a hill with sticks on their feet".. That quote goes over great in the instructor forum threads where people are arguing about boot alignment for first timers learning to snowplow
