    Ankle Brace under a boot?

Buddy of mine broke the 'cubic' bone in his ankle and tore the muscles up pretty badly. His prognosis is good- 6 weeks of PT and hes back.

What is a good brace for the ankle- to be worn in a snowboard boot?

After i wrecked my ankles in DH, i used a Rehband lace up whiler riding.
The problem i had was due to some crushed cartilage/compresion in the ankles.
I tried to use it while snowboarding, but it didnt help me that much.
I mean,it fit relatively well (altough lost a bit touch from the boot) but
it didnt prevent enough the overextension of the ankle (like hitting a field of death-cookies).Riding on even slopes was managable, but who the hell wants to ride those?

The pain was so bad for me i had to quit boarding and take up skiing, wich after all proved to be nice change. At least you get to buy more gear than in snowboarding...

Soo, in short, any low profile lace ups work fine.

The best solution would be to have a carbon cast (comes over your foot and lover shin) made on some sports ortho. Light, non intrusive, prevents the hyperextension more effectively than anything else.
Downside is that they can cost quite much, but there is allways a price for being able to ride.

    Not cubic,....cuboid

is there even room in a snowboard boot for an ankle brace? I've never put one on but I know this is now way you could ever wear one in a ski boot.

If there is room, I second a simple lace up type brace costs about $20-25.

Not sure if it will work with snowboard boot, but the ones with a wrap around velcrow system are great for preventing sprains and strains.

Here is one for 30, the 661 Race Brace Pro:

I tried a similar that the 661 pro,but it was too bulky for the snmowboard boot. The rehbabnd i got is just like the lace up 661.

But as said, i personally would go for the car.fib support/tongue, if i would have to go back for snowboarding.

Cheapest fix I've used was learn how to tape your ankle well and then get some cheap ski socks. Use duct tape over the cheap socks and if you wrap it correctly, it will work well and the duct tape is not as stretchy as athletic tape. The downside is if your feet sweat much, dt doesn't breath.

In case anyone stumbles across this thread bumped by spam--the best solution is probably to tape the ankle. Should fit under a snowboard boot. Don't forget to shave the leg first.
