Anyone else tired of the so-so skiing(in recent ski porn) in sick Western terrain..
Is it just me..or is anyone else tired of the lack of quality skiing by the hords of young guys(really at the Intermediate level) on the fat boards in absolutely gorgeous snow....
Is it the low-budgets of these operations that is driving it all....?
I mean, we in the East really look forward to this stuff, but when all that a DVD is made up of is a bunch of steep tail-skidding.....
Granted, skidding on the steeps is needed, but with the absolute DULLNESS of straightlining...is the much unneeded banking...etc... Or am I just getting oldERLast edited by steved; 10-17-2005 at 11:36 AM.

Maybe the traditional idea of "quality" skiing is gettin a little antiquated for ski porn. Jibbers ain't racers, and racers aren't in porn (with a few exceptions). I get bummed out too when the big production companies grab the young up-an-coming jibbers and heli them around in BC or AK when there are obviously more deserving big mountain skiers who could truly lay it down up there. But those jibber kids are hungry too and are definately leaving some hairball lines down some stuff, even if their turns aren't round and their weight is baa-a-a-a-aaack.

Huh? I thought it was the unshaped skis. Or maybe it's the shampoo.

What you don't get a measure of is the speed and absolute control with which the skiers slay these lines. That and you're an idiot.

Dude, watch better movies. For instance, Team 13 has sick big mountain skiing by guys with MAD style—not tail gunners. It’s out there, find it.

I'll agree with the original post.
We sat through 9 ski movies in three days at the freshtival. This was enough exposure in a really short period to give us a chance to compare and contrast the different segments (so much ski in so little time dulls the emotion a bit, so one can evaluate in a more somber manner).
In my opinion the only person who skied big mountain with true style was Seth Morrison in his War segment. McConkey and Douglas were close seconds, while most others' lines were of the "let me just set up this big huck here" type.
An interesting moment for me was in "Hit List", where one can see how Daron Rahlves compares to Abma and Chris Davenport in a big-mountain environment. Especially when they put a couple of gates for good measure anybody with half an eye for skiing can figure out who skis defensively and who attacks the line.
But that can be just me -- I prefer seeing people elegantly negotiate lines rather than rip them. And Hall skis powder like the mogul skier he is

Did Hugo Harrison (tail gunner who is never in the fall line) have any parts in the movies you saw?

Guys like Hugo and PY are in the minority these days. There is a lot of just big smear turns in movies these days. Just look at what one of the most popular skiing tool around these parts is.....spatulas. Those things are designed to not carve a turn, but slide the turn instead. I agree with the orignal poster that all those snowboard turns gets old. Give me more segments like Hugo, PY, Kreitler, and especially McGovern and much less Tanner and the like. Just my $.02. Feel free to flame away since I am wearing my Nomex today

please tell me thats was tongue in cheek about Hugo, that dude is great to watch and one of the more technically adept skier out there.
just got done watching Ingrid's part in Yearbook, alot of the top males in the sport can pick up thing or two from her skiing, she may not go as fast ot as big as everyone, but she is by far the "prettiest"(in more was than one) skier on that movie.
Wow that sounds retarded, but i think you guys know what i mean.
