MEGA TR: Las Lenas 2005 Mini recap (mucho fotos- que bueno!)
The MEGA TR begins now….

…cue announcer…
Wanna live on the edge?
Are you an adrenaline junky?
Frequent Flier Member?
Powder slut?
Willing to trek for that ‘ultimate run’
Brought the Pain?
Or Wish to let your inhibitions free?
.
..
…
….
…..
Well then, set sail and enter the multi-sensory TR as we relive some of the finer…and not so finermoments of the 2005 Summer Mini.
On September 1st, from points across the USA & Canada, we embarked for Las Lenas to take over the reign from our August Las Lenas maggots
Dreams of snow infiltrated my mind as all I could see was summer in Seattle & a dirty Rainier
Before I knew it, the Sun was rising over the Andes and gently woke me up, almost as if to say, “The time is here”
Approaching Santiago, Chile- the mountains had a white welcome
The first part of the crew assembled at the Santiago airport. Tresckow & Kristen, Girlski & Hop had arrived earlier via LAN, Tyrone Shoelaces via Valle Nevado and we also ran into Dgilchrest and the super rad tele crew from Steamboat.
On arrival in Mendoza, our van was waiting with Kyler & Doug and with a pit stop for some Quilmes (our unofficial sponsor) – we were off.
road to andes
are we there yet?
We’re Here!!!
First Chair excitement
Leads to First Turns of the Mini
Hop- yep, he’s a slutbag
Tyrone first turns of the trip
There’s no hiding Tyrone’s anticipation as we’re the first to set the traverse track into the far reaches of Cenidor’s deep pockets of powder
Girlski making some smoove turns and getting some face time
Approval from the Peanut Gallery
Endless Smiles after the first day (Tyrone, Kyler, Hop, and Squirrel wait to return to Corbus Base)

continued
Dinner at Brasero – ah, the pimiento negra & lomo a la mostaza! Que Bueno!
And some Latitude 33 Malbec was on tap @ the Wine Bar
So where the heck are LPH, Arty50, Foggy, and Timmay? Well, I won’t get into LPH’s ordeal- but next time, I think it’s save to say when he changes planes in SLC, he’ll move his watch one hour ahead, not behind (insert emoticon here)
And what kind of day would greet these Sunday arrivals? Hiking and The Goods! (secretly I think Marte was scared to open prior to Arty50’s arrival- the wrath would have been earthshaking)
Get up you lazy sack o…wait, it’s only 7am. Meanwhile, Kyler cooks up a storm in the kitchen
<clouds lift, blue bird sky, choir sings!>
The maggots have landed!
and if the bull wheel isn’t turning, there’s always option #2
note the area of marte chair that’s buried (winch cat trying to dig out the towers)
closer look here (Tower 10 completely buried)
Soon you will be dominated by maggots!
So while mountain ops is out working on Marte for the faithful, what are we to do?
First, a lot of this:
TABLE SURFING!
And then….
Marte esta abierto!
and it was Game ON!
End of the first Marte day and it was time for celebration
Dinner in Casa de Corbus

not even close!
Bring the Pain- Argentine secret double agent Diego informed us this line had only been skied 5 times in the history of LL- the last year it was possible was 1994. First tried to trick Girlski into dropping, but settled for a date with Hop instead.
But the 40 foot entry required a self arrest in the wind drift to avoid meatgrinder chutes below the short LZ. Unbeknown to the rest of us, there was also an exit air waiting around the corner. Here, hop performs his best Shamu impersonation.
We heard the rocks hit his skis before he was airborn
But he was okay- just in time to slut for the camera again
Ah, Cerro Martin. It may be one of the smaller peaks- but makes up for vert with imposing lines
Three caballeros
LPH approaching the summit
Squirrel puts in the nervous first tracks into Banana Couloir (damn that snow was rotton)
Vaca
The ladies crushed Cerro Martin
Squirrel
Arty50
Tyrone
Girlski
LPH
Gotta love your signature!
And ‘shit talker walker’ was giddy as a catholic school girl
Girlski charging through Frankie’s midsection

More
Even better than Sierra Corn. Seriously.
Kicking Back after a long day of hiking
A quick detour through the Collar got us away from the gapers and over to one of the real corn prizes in Las Lenas.
Foggy charging through the firm corn snow on Principito. Must have been in a rush to grab a Lomo UFO
LPH on his way toward one of many Marte pleasures
With Girski hot on his trail
Squirrel
“Just wait until you see what I got on tape!”
“That’s so gross, Ned!” Kristen replies when asked about her husband’s academy award winning las lenas movie role
Tresckow
Getting there is half the fun!
Which line?
nah, let’s go further…
How about here?
falling away along the edge of the ridgeline was well over 50 degrees and spooky
Looking back up- Yep, those would be our tracks. Cerro Torrecillas
Good thing Hop ran out of gas here. Get up soon or the gaper cat will crush you!
amazing what a few ave de leches (or ave con leche?) will do for ya
Pineapple & 8 Peso Vokda & Red Bull =
Happy Birthday, Girlski
Hmmn… I wonder what’s in here?
! Who let the storm in?
THREE HOURS LATER:

Time for the all-u-can-eat buffet
Girlski off backside Volcano
Tyrone shredding Exocet
Squirrel
Foggy dropping through Exocet
Hop
Kyler
Kristen
Girlski loves Franky (and Vaca, and Silverton, and Oregon, and ….)
Hop airing it out
Arty 50 searching for the “exit door” on Sin Salida
Tyrone thinks maybe here?
For all you “keeping it real” fans out there. When checking out with Patrol our first day, this guy got all fussy with us when we asked if he had any BC gear (regrettably, we think he was from the States). He also didn’t realize that a line he kept skiing had a 100 foot waterfall buried beneath the snow. Stoy discovered some “holes” in the runout by accident (emoticon) and had a freak “oh crap moment.”
entry to broken shoulder couloir
squirrel between the Labyrinth and Broken Shoulder
things are about to get interesting

Showtime at Eduardo’s with Tyrone & Hop
those would be our tracks…3 TIMES! (Hi Basom)
hop enters the mist of Parrot Shell
last run of the day, 3500 nonstop leg burning vert
Now that’s what I call, après ski!
Whistler represent! Victoria, Holly & Ryan
Tresckow and Kristen kicking it on the couch after another fine day
Hey, look it’s three chicks…oops, no- sorry, that’s Hop.
Waiting in Marte chair line up did have its perks…
But so did Corona Club
How ‘bout some good Drum & Bass, Senor?
We did our best to stay away from the alluring night scene in Lenas. May be small, but it certainly goes off. Tresckow was most definitely our MVP! Perhaps LPH will post the video soon?
a few other incriminating pictures…
“I am DJ Diego and I will not submit to your Baker Radness!”
Champagne made for a long morning
Ooonz Ooonz Ooonz! UFO summons the crowd

That is easily...without a doubt...the greatest trip report in the history of the world. I will kill anyone who argues with me.
Fuckin' Squirrely, I knew you were saving the best for last...but damn..."I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."

Congrats on a great trip!
I had this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach when I cancelled the flight to BA back in June.
A big OOPS!
