I know that the RAT trails are supposed to be fun but never ridden them.
"fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy
All of the rat trails felt similar and fun to me. Just go wander around. Lots of trails. I did the “seize the cheese” route on MTB project and liked it.
Have buddy that lives over there but haven't made it over to ride myself. Fun but not exceptional is my understanding of the RAT trails. I don't think there's any particular must do or must avoid trails there.
I've also heard the Electric Hills system in Montrose is good. Probably about 40min from Ouray?
None of the high country is ready yet and all of that's pretty far from Ouray anyway.
Orvis Hot Springs is worthy. Clothing optional FYI, although most don't exercise that freedom.
Yeah, RAT trails are fun, and good for a day or two of riding. Not sure if the stuff at the state park is open yet, but the lake can be decent in the right weather. I prefer Ouray hot springs if you are going on a busy weekend day. Orvis just has too many naked old dudes hanging around. The Sauna>cold plunge>lobster pot circuit is nice at Orvis though, if the Lobster pot isn't full of people. Weekend afternoons can get crowded and annoying. Hike around the Amphitheater Trail in Ouray is nice way to kill some time.
I’ll update the title to Ridgeway RAT trails. I was told they were in a state park.
No beta needed. All the trails are labeled and signed. Every major intersection has a map, every minor intersection has tail names. Every trail is bi-directional, but any that should be directional say “this trail is more fun in this direction”
Super easy to navigate, everything is “blue”, rollable or minimal tech that anyone should climb/clean.
Just an easy fun trail system.
Here's another plug for the Electric Hills system, built by the same crew that built the RAT trails, but more variation and tech in Montrose system.

FTR, it’s ‘Ridgway’ without the ‘e’ and the RATS is across the highway from the State Park.
