    Mid Priced Goggles

My Smith IO Max’s strap to clip connection broke…. Smith leaned on that “limited” warranty and offered a thirty% discount. I dunno, I would have assumed a $three-hundred pair of goggles should last a few years….

Fuck em. Fuck the overpriced eyewear game.

What’s good in the midpriced eyewear game? Blenders? Glade? Pitviper?!? Any brands that aren’t marketed towards zyn crowd? I need multiple lenses with decent ease of swap.

Whomever that Mag was who is involved with SunSki - Make goggles please. I love your glasses - they hit the “correct” price to performance ratio…

Not looking for AMZN and TEMU goggs… I haven’t stooped to that level yet… Although daycare costs are getting me dangerously close…

I've been happy with Spy - occasionally at Costco for around $40. Sierra Trading has some too.

you can usually find some good deals on the Smith Squad XL, and IMO they are better than any of the higher end smith goggles. Never really liked the spherical lenses on the "high end" goggles. less parts to break + cylindrical lenses on the squads were great for me.

Is there anything like those Outdoor Master knockoffs, but not as tall? I like the wide view of the framless, and the easy (though not frequent) lens swap, but I have to tip my helmet back more than I probably should.
    No longer stuck.

I got a good deal on some Squad XLs and they're really excellent. I do also quite like my Pit Vipers in the sun, but the Smith low light lenses are definitely superior

Sweet Protection Durden. Shit, I have a pair, with a low light lens I'd sell for cheap.

Wait till the spring and you can usually get Smith Squads half price through their website. About seventy-five bucks. I like mine a lot and they dont break the bank.

SPY is a premium brand, they make lines at different price points just like Smith, Oakley, etc. Honestly, your best bet is to take your 30% Smith discount and get Squads or another mid-level like others have suggested. Blenders, Glade, Zionor and the like seem to scratch easier and dont tend to have the quality of optics as the premium brands. That doesnt bother some folks, but Im not a fan personally.

The dual mag lens Blue Sky goggles at Costco are amazingly good for $40-50.

Been using Shady Rays for more than five years in all conditions in Utah. Been very happy. Have about six or seven lenses I’ve accumulated as occasionally I scratch them and they are reasonably priced. Very easy to swap. I also order their prescription glasses and have been really satisfied including their warranty/replacement if something breaks.

That’s good to hear. I’ve been curious about them. I like that their replacement lenses are reasonably priced and there are a lot of options.

Does anyone here have experience with the Smith Skylines?

Seriously, look at Sierra Trading - they've got a bunch of goggles in the $40-60 range. If you live near a store, easy returns.

Another Squad XL newbie here. Got a deal, had not had new goggles in 15 years.
Love the clarity and field of view on these things.
Someone has to have a wholesale Smith code for ya.

no more or less complicated than any non-mag goggle.

I know you are mad about your smith's breaking and their warranty not helping (which is surprising, I've heard pretty good experiences with smith warranty).

But "Smith goggles on deep discount" is the answer to mid priced goggles. Maybe you can substitute for Oakley/Anon or others on deep discount, but Smith seems really easy to find at 40%+ off or past-season stock for cheap.

I think that's why there aren't great answers for the mid priced goggle segment, although people like Glade and Goodr are trying. If you want cheap, just buy Amazon specials. But if you want mid-price...why pay $100 for mid-range goggles when you can pay $120 for top of the line goggles in last year's colors?

    Here's a bunch of I/O Mags for $120: https://www.evo.com/outlet/goggles/s...g&gad_source=1
They have Squad XLs for 72 too.

Otherwise you are getting non-interchangable lenses or questionable lens quality in that price range...at which point just go with Amazon brands (some of which are pretty good).

I also had a strap pull out from the frame on my I/O Mag frame. Emailed customer service, and never heard back. I ended up taking it apart, and and found it to be a bad design. No longer a fan. Go elesewhere.

I’m a big fan a smith squad xl goggles, huge field of vision and they sit close enough to it face that you don’t see the frame. But ever since smith moved their customer service ops from Clearfield Utah to PDX, the warranty department has been a lot less kind.

    Glade anyone?
I seriously bought two pairs of goggles on Amazon for $25 each a few years ago and they have been totally good quality. My theory is they were prototypes that never got branded since they have no logos. Magnetic lenses and everything. Still wearing them every day. Haven't fogged on me once.
