    Tariffs

Ben Stein, Ronald Reagan, and a few others explain the basics to you.

The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Tariff = shakedown/extortion/grift, as practiced by the Prez elect.

    The amercian ambassador pointed out

" " Cutting Mexico out of the current North American free trade deal "may not be the best path to take," says U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Cohen.

"I come from a school of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it,' when we have this really incredible, incredible agreement in CUSMA, by the way, an agreement that was negotiated by Donald Trump," Cohen said, in an interview on CTV's Question Period airing on Sunday.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/if-i...deal-1.7137255 actualy what will happen is Trump

Trump probably doesnt remember this agreement " he negotiated " cuz other people did all the work

I think the Amercian or Canadian worker will pay all of Trumps Tariffs

The beauty of trumptard nation is that he could decide to not impose tariffs on industries that have paid him off & turn around and brag about cutting import taxes.

Probably not a good idea to impose tariffs on stuff we don't make or on materials we don't have. A case can be made to impose tariffs on products that are the result of stolen intellectual property or being sold below cost due to government subsidies. It is also reasonable to use them to support the emergence of local sources or sources from friendly countries. It is not a good idea to rely on a hostile state for critical products and materials. Before imposing the tariffs, however, we should be finding or developing other sources. China is currently the only source for rare earths. We can't afford to piss them off until we find other sources.

You have used 10x more words than Trump or anyone close to him has ever used to think about this issue.

    Unintended consequences.

Fucking rent seeking is what tariffs are. Save a job in Pittsburgh and cut a hundred more around the country.

Anyone remember Bernie’s bobble head bill? Wanted only American made goods in federal gift shops. He, rightly so, got lambasted especially by the right and now it’s the right’s platform.

My prediction if Trump actually follows through with his proposed tariffs, the rest of the world gangs up on the US via trade war. We push countries to align with China’s interests. The world is united in its disdain for Trumps America and are far more willing to endure economic pain than the US.

Its just a smooth brained grifter shakedown. Billionaires deposit a yuuuge lump sum into his bank account and magically the billionaires particular industry doesnt have tariffs. Simp transaction from king simp.

Drain the swamp eh?!? He's appointing the swamp to gov position and its always been obvious but still not nearly as obvious. Blows my mind, sooo many morans.

Tarrifs are BIG in the news up here and the premiers are falling all over each other individualy trying to suck the cock of Trump instead of figuring out what worked last time they had to negotiate 4yrs ago

Canada had a file on what was going to be shipped back and forth so each specific industry could be targeted which means there would be a congressman who would have to explain why some industry would be paying 25 % more

Some of John Boultons take, yeah I know you don't like him but he was the grownup in the room and he is not stupid whereas your president elect ... is stupid

Bolton says Trump has a fixation with tariffs, and refuses to accept they will likely make life more expensive for American consumers.

"Tariffs are paid by the American importer, and then ultimately the bulk of the tariff is probably passed on to American consumers.… Trump doesn't get it," he said.

"It's like arguing the Earth is not flat. You're not going to persuade him."

I read another blurb that said Trump really doesnt get numbers

Spot on. It's the reason to oppose this sort of thing like when California went after SpaceX for political reasons, even when it comes to assholes like Elon Musk. Fareed Zakaria does a good job laying out:

ZAKARIA: You can see it in what happened a day after the election results became clear. You got a flurry of tweets from every major C.E.O. in America — every major tech C.E.O., every bank C.E.O. — fawning over Trump, congratulating him and telling him how much they wanted to work well with him. I think that this is a very sad development that’s happened. It’s not entirely because of Trump. But we have politicized the economy in America. All this industrial policy, these tariffs, these bans. What that does is it suddenly makes Washington a very crucial arbiter to the success of business. You add to it Trump, who personally loves the idea of fining Caterpillar for doing this and Harley Davidson for doing that and Chase for doing — he views it as his job as president to literally dole out rewards and punishments to companies, depending on whether they do what he regards as the right thing or the wrong thing. It’s deeply saddening to me as somebody who grew up in India, where this is business as usual. Every business had to slavishly pander to whoever the prime minister at the time was. And you see it in Musk. Tesla stock, in the two days after Trump won, was up 20 percent or something like that, adding tens of billions of dollars to Elon Musk’s net worth. Nothing fundamental in the economics had changed for Tesla. There was just an expectation, now that he was a friend of Trump’s, that he was going to somehow be showered with federal largesse. You know, there’s a guy in India called Adani who’s Modi’s best friend, and his stocks trade at multiples 10 times that of every other Indian company. Because everyone assumes that at the end of the day, being Modi’s best friend is worth $100 billion or something like that.

DUBNER: That’s probably a pretty safe assumption.

ZAKARIA: It’s a safe assumption in India. What’s tragic is it might even be a safe assumption in America. But it’s not what the American economy was supposed to be about. And I think it’s a very sad trend.

actualy Trudeau went to mara lago, so why go to meet with a guy who isnt even the pres yet and I doubt he took a team of people who know wtf

Now trump makes fun of JT which is probably good natured & overblown but good for news cycles on the CBC and doesnt really do anything for his already poor showing in the polls

its also very likely Trump doesnt know there aren't really governors up here
