Multiverse: "Yes, broadly speaking free Western-style democratic countries are American allies. The United States, alone, has more weight to throw around. Against one country, it wins. But countries, together, are heavier. They press back. The danger, then, is not just tariffs, not just trade—those are numbers, percentages, threats exchanged. The real danger is a shift, a new arrangement: no longer West and anti-West, but the United States against everyone else. A miscalculation. A mistake. And then, suddenly, a different world"

The free World needs to crush Dumps/Amurica. Canada and Mexico have their agreements and just stop buying anything from the USA. Then the Euro zone joins them. Finally Asia puts the stake through the Beast heart and the country is bankrupt. Putin smiles.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Trumping is breaking things. Trade wars are bad for everyone. Sometimes they even lead to shooting wars. Tariffs were a significant contributing cause of both WW1 & WWII so let's try and avoid crushing friends, even if we're frenemies for the next four years

Tarriffs don't kick in until Tuesday, maybe there's some hope things will change on Monday?

WSJ apparently called this "the stupidest trade war in history"

re: Trudeau's speech - can you imagine if Poilievre had that duty? He'd spend the time blaming Canadian's and the left woke agenda while announcing unrelated tough on crime ideas while sexually caressing a piece of lumber and sneering at female journalists.

Oh hey has Kenny Satch chimed in with a meme designed by a twelve year old yet?

Meanwhile in America: crypto bros are not having any of it, saying crypto is all about trade. Bernie comes to Jesus on economics, saying we need to drive prices DOWN, not UP. And the feckless DNC opposition is electing leadership by starting with a "land acknowledgment," saying America is indigenous stolen land. Maybe our best hope is a 10-percent market correction blowing Trump off this policy

All of that is small potatoes compared to Elon and his boy band obtaining control of us payment systems and usaid data. We are in full constitutional crisis territory now

The Elon coup isn’t an opposition thing. Everyone on both sides should give a shit that a billionaire has control of their person data including social security numbers, payment systems that are a direct conflict of interest for a huge government contractor to control and vital intelligence info that China and Russian would love to have a chat w Elon about.

I don’t even think the majority of Magas are ok w any of that.

Would Trump really want Canada to be the 51st state? Not sure adding a left-leaning country slightly more populous than California to the US would be real conducive to continued GOP victories, or maybe Trump thinks the whole election thing is passe.

There is absolutely zero chance his junior engineer squad hasn’t been or won’t be compromised by state actors.

Good summary here if anyone wants to read about it:

Our shadow President's time would be better served schooling our elected President on the benefits of trade:

Given password and other data breaches over the years, I would think if that list got out the surge in identity theft would just about dismantle the entire internet economy.

And then Elon will swoop in saying “ see how dangerous these centralized systems are??? Here’s my crypto based solution that will prevent this!”

To all the worried Canadians. This will be difficult but it's time for Canada end dependency on any country when we have it all here. Lithium to Cobalt and our resources a plenty. They are always countries ready to buy our stuff and if our dollars goes 60 cents or lower the better for selling world wide. Not so great for us who like to travel but like I said we have to endure certain difficulties.
    Long live Canada.

It'll hurt travel to the US but almost every other currency (JPY, NOK, EUR, AUD) is also tanking wrt to USD. Travel to any other country other than the US is relatively unaffected.

Many Canadians are canceling trips to the US. I'd suspect nationals of other countries against whom the US has declared economic war may feel the same way.
