But seriously, insufferable is the perfect word.

Why wouldnt Jordan Peterson qualify as an intellectual? Phd from McGill in clinical Psychology, Proff at Harvard and UofToronto, published author in his field, actively participating and debating in current discussion within his field of expertise, etc. What would you consider passing for an intellectual?

Ben shapiro, i understand your point. Really smart guy, but he is just a really smart guy who makes a living off gaslighting and then out lawyering/debating. Not interested or active in the study of anything in particular other than how to drum up opposition rage and then win a debate with them.

Shapiro studied at Harvard (Law). He's a polemic dude, not an academic.

JP is a PhD Psychologist with post-doc fellowship and extensive research leadership, academics, and clinical practice for over 3 decades, including exctensive research publications at Harvard and Univ of Toronto, where he became a full professor. So, I'd say he is the a prototypical intellectual.

Generally you are an bitter and unpleasant person who reflects that misery in your posts. But every once in a while, you are correct and it is quite funny too. Like here, on all points.

I find it surreal that anyone takes him seriously - which, interestingly, seems to only be a claim from the lonely and/or Incels but not women.
You hatred is pretty passionate... where is that coming from? Your violent imagry probably says something here... but if you want evidence he had sex more than once, he does have two children.

I have no idea if he and his wife were attractive people 35 years ago when they got married, but if his daughter is any measure, probably they were.

I find his discussion of human behavioralism, personality, particularly maladaptive personality traits, fascinating. I think that is what I've heard him talk about most. I tried reading one of his books and found it not so great, but I very much wasn't the target audience (it was definitely written for young people, young men in particular; that is his target audience). I tend to find him insufferable when he gets outside of pyschology and sociology and into spiritualism/religion.

Broadly, you're way dumber and easier to manipulate than you think you are.

this thread was consistently hilarious for a while, then became a non-stop snoozefest for pages, and now is back to being sometimes hilarious.

The amount of time certain individuals have dedicated to this thread is concerning.

Doctor of clinical psychology who did his masters thesis on alcoholism doesn’t understand risks of benzo addiction.

Instead of “cleaning his own room” and owning up to anxiety issues, possibly making the world better by helping others suffering drug and alcohol addiction, the self proclaimed paragon of personal responsibility blames doctors and food issues.

Travels to Russia for mystery treatment. Wakes up suspiciously more aggressive in ideology blaming wokeism for society’s problems.

Yeah, fuck that guy with a spiked baseball bat.

Hey, I get it, you're impressed. I'm not. To me, he'll always be the Russell Brand of Ben Shapiros.

Back on point, JP is the hero of Incels and disaffected dorks regardless of his convoluted and strained 'enforced monogamy' spiel. He's definitely no authority on how to conduct yourself with regards to women or how to be an attractive partner.

Not an expert on JP - but you can take any smart and highly educated person and give them a brain injury and they may not be that smart anymore. So his accolades and education could be impressive but who knows what happens when you go to Russia to get the treatment he did.

Huh. That actually pencils. My passing knowledge of his stuff was pre 2020 (when he had his drug/brain/Russia issues) and it was pretty sensible from what I remember. I stopped paying attention in recent years as he leaned further and further into the rightwing culture war which I mostly attributed to him just naturally leaning into the group giving positive feedback... But now that Russian treatment has me wondering. Wow.

It is insane. If someone graduates from medical school in the US there should be some kind of residency available to them. We're pushing roughly 500 newly minted doctors with $500k educations and an MD or DO degree out of the profession every year for no reason other than to artificially reduce the supply to keep wages high.
This isn’t really accurate. Yes, residency spots (which all receive federal funding) are capped , but there are significantly more residency spots than there are American medical school graduates every year. Many spots have to be filled by foreign medical graduates , and some spots go unfilled.
