Why wouldnt Jordan Peterson qualify as an intellectual? Phd from McGill in clinical Psychology, Proff at Harvard and UofToronto, published author in his field, actively participating and debating in current discussion within his field of expertise, etc. What would you consider passing for an intellectual?

Shapiro studied at Harvard (Law). He's a polemic dude, not an academic.

JP is a PhD Psychologist with post-doc fellowship and extensive research leadership, academics, and clinical practice for over 3 decades, including exctensive research publications at Harvard and Univ of Toronto, where he became a full professor. So, I'd say he is the a prototypical intellectual.

He's self-important and uses 200 words to describe something when he could have used 2. It's no wonder summit is a fan.

JFC. Kermit Peterson is a walking definition of 'unfuckable'. He's insufferable. He's boring AF. Tries so hard to be provocative to compensate for lack of substance. The only way he'd be involved in getting a women wet is by being punched in the face by a better man. Which is almost anyone.

I find it surreal that anyone takes him seriously - which, interestingly, seems to only be a claim from the lonely and/or Incels but not women.

I find his discussion of human behavioralism, personality, particularly maladaptive personality traits, fascinating. I think that is what I've heard him talk about most. I tried reading one of his books and found it not so great, but I very much wasn't the target audience (it was definitely written for young people, young men in particular; that is his target audience). I tend to find him insufferable when he gets outside of pyschology and sociology and into spiritualism/religion.

Huh. That actually pencils. My passing knowledge of his stuff was pre 2020 (when he had his drug/brain/Russia issues) and it was pretty sensible from what I remember. I stopped paying attention in recent years as he leaned further and further into the rightwing culture war which I mostly attributed to him just naturally leaning into the group giving positive feedback... But now that Russian treatment has me wondering. Wow.

There is an artificially reduced supply of physicians that physicians are largely complicit in creating. The AMA lobbies against increased funding for residency programs. There is a hard cap on the number of docs who can enter residency in a given year, so there is a hard cap on the number of new doctors who can practice.

It is insane. If someone graduates from medical school in the US there should be some kind of residency available to them. We're pushing roughly 500 newly minted doctors with $500k educations and an MD or DO degree out of the profession every year for no reason other than to artificially reduce the supply to keep wages high.

This isn’t really accurate. Yes, residency spots (which all receive federal funding) are capped , but there are significantly more residency spots than there are American medical school graduates every year. Many spots have to be filled by foreign medical graduates , and some spots go unfilled.
