Oh man that reminds me I have a set of those haha. I need to get them out this weekend if we get the predicted storm. I always kinda forget about them and just take GPOs for anything fresh. Total clown shoes.

Have you skiied the 132 hellbent with the psycho clowns/lumber jacks? How would these relate? You’re the first person I’ve heard say the gen 1 is better than the pon2oons. What about the gen 1 is better?

Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....
Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Obviously this is subjective and YMMV… However, I found the Gen 1s to have better float, as well as a looser feel (when you want it), more maneuverable. I think the pon2oons were maybe a better all around ski for “all-day” conditions, but i never gelled with them and eventually let them go, transitioning to the Lotus-120. For me this (gen 1) was a total quiver stick for a specific set of conditions and I would just switch out to another ski as the day progressed (if needed). Generally speaking though, if you are relegated to lower angle terrain due to avalanche or snow conditions, gen 1s are hover craft compared to anything else. I know people who tour on them in those conditions. I have limited experience on the Hellbent, that ski had a lot more splay at the tail whereas the gen 1 had some splay plus a pin tail to get the end result it did.
FWIW, most of the time I spent on those skis was PNW/SW CO.

I had a pair of these back in the day. Definitely super fun, and definitely clown shoes. I prefer modern pow skis like my cease and desists and Lhasa pow fats in pretty much every way though.
I do like the pin tail pontoons though, truly unsinkable tips. Super fun in anything deep

The big tips, big rocker, and pintail make them live up to their name, like ACH said above. You want these if you need to motor across some flat areas in two plus feet of fresh. That's what mine were great for. Not great after the untracked snow is used up, but a great quiver option if you have that situation. I still haven't had a ski that can float like these. I miss that option once a year or so.

They’re use in the same conditions, but are very different designs. Personally, I am not a huge fan of reverse side cut/straight side cut skis like the protest in heavy Sierra snow. Too easy to sink the tips/I never felt the tips are supportive enough. Pin tail/fat tip skis like the pontoon, cease and desist, billgoat, Lhasa pow fat are superior in heavy snow imo.
The pontoons excel on wide open and steep lines. The soft flex and heavy swing weight can make them a handful in trees and tight stuff. It’s been so long since I’ve been on them though, i can’t remember what they were like in chop.
But yeah, bottom line the pontoons excel in very deep days, cat skiing, heliskiing, etc. other fat skis I mentioned are better in variable, tight spaces, and resort

Thanks for all the suggestions. I pulled the bindings off and sold them.
Skis still up for sale
I have some warden demos with 130 mm brake if someone’s interested in sharing them with their crowd

Anyone have experience on the Toons vs. Moment Comis?
Kicking around the idea of keeping these, but... wondering when I would grab the Toons instead of the Protests? Most reading has lead me to believe if its untouched, Toons, if its tracked, Protest.
I skied the Comi but felt like it was a lot to handle at 192 and camber-vibes underfoot.
Thoughts?
