Praxis Appreciation Post (Custom FRS 194)

I think the title speaks for itself, but wanted to pay some well deserved homage to Keith and Praxis.

A little backstory, I skied on the Freeskiing World Tour (later Subaru Freeride Series) and FWQ events from 2012-2017 with a few top 10’s along the way. My style is very much fall-line, big fast turns and find the biggest hit on the venue type of style. Not very tricky at all, but can lay out a backy and throw a pretty smooth 3. Also, by skier standards, I’m not a small guy at 6’1, 200, so I put A LOT of stress on skis with my type of style. That being said, I’ve NEVER run into any issues with Praxis, and I’ve put them through the wringer when they’ve been on my feet.

I haven’t skied a whole lot the last few years, mainly due to work and my first-born but things are lining up this winter where I can get after it a little more so as you could imagine, the stoke is high.

I hit up Keith about a month and a half ago inquiring about some custom FRS 194’s. The last time I asked to have a ski built was in 2016 and Keith built me some FRD 194’s. What’s really important to note about this was that was about the last time I had spoken to Keith…8 years ago. When I talked to him on the phone recently about this new build I wanted, he legitimately remembered who I was from when I was out there in the Mt. Rose backcountry one particular day with himself, Kevin, Lars, Silas and a few others, just lapping it out. Needless to say that felt great to hear and really showed that Keith and Praxis really appreciate their supporters.

To anyone on these boards looking for the highest quality, best designed freeride skis out there, HIGHLY recommend Praxis, especially if you go the custom route.

    Cheers, Keith!

Awesome sauce. Glad to hear you're healthy, and getting after it after the kids are a bit older and you're done with diaper duty. Those young years are hard and we parents take a back seat, but I'm kind of in the same boat now, and will be pushing harder this winter.

Gorgeous skis, and I'm sure the build is astounding. Nothing but praise around here.

Just don't go ruin them with a silly sticker. ;-) Unless it's a GSA, that one might suffice.

Damn those are beautiful!! Skiing with the kids is the best thing in the world. My kids are firing threes off of everything and trash talking me for not following. I love it.

Hand's down best veneer I've seen yet. Crazy that Keith's ski art is still progressing.

Cheers! I couldn't be more stoked to get back out there. I've felt I missed out on the last 2 winters, but like you said we have to take a backseat for the kids...and it's all very much worth it. Rest assured...zero stickers going on these!

Thanks! Believe it or not, I've never actually skied the FRS yet but based on the shape , profile and fact it was offered in a 194 had me sold. Can't wait until we get some snow here in the Wasatch.

Agreed! Seeing them get excited when they progress is the absolute best!

Cheers! Got lucky with the Black Walnut as I remembered it from a few seasons back and asked if there was any lying around which there was 1 sheet.

I'm on my second pair of SND's. Only bought because I wanted sweet veneer topsheets and my old ones with hundreds of days on them had beat to shit topsheets. Skied the old ones first week of this season and was surprised how good they still are. Also have a couple other pair of Keith's skis.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.
