I might do a thxgiving day trip from Tahoe. Depends on what terrain opens, if any, after this next storm rolls through.

I’m in need of a Mammoth fix, but waiting for slightly more terrain before I make the drive.

That was taken at the bottom of ch2, coverage up high was pretty decent. I was able to get under monument & the paranoids when the traverse opened, pretty fucking good…

Been out on the mtn since 10:00 a.m. this morning. There’s 5”-7” of thick spongy new snow. It’s fun if you can find it untracked. Not really snowing much right now.
Chair 1 went down and people were stuck on it for at least 45+ minutes. Looked super cold.

It snowed last night and Mammoth is still under the hose! Ski patrol weather page showed snowfall rates of 2-3" per hour from 12:00 a.m. on.

Tree's off the back deck. Loving this view. Haven't seen a plow in our part of town since last night so plan accordingly to get up to the mtn. Have a powder day!

Really good start to the season. In classic Mammoth style, they could not get Chair 1 to spin yesterday. Seems like a lot of terrain could have been open, but operations was not up to the task.

Regardless, coverage is great considering how early in the season we are.

Totally. 17% of last year's total before turkey day. Hoping we revert back to the big Decembers of '21 & '22 as a second act...

After a late start Tuesday due to delayed opening skied til closing. Found plenty of deep, thick pow and by the end of the day some fun wind blown snow. From noon til closing I never waited in line for more that 1-2 minutes. The sun is out today so that may change. Here's a couple pics from Tuesday.

Winds were ripping by the end of the day with some runs buffing out. Lookers left of Rodgers Ridge had fun wind blown snow and was rock free. Just check it up at the bottom.

Last run of the day at 4:00 p.m. I can here patrol blasting and it looks like the winds have dropped so it's time to head up. Have a good day and ski safe.

Nice update and thanks for the new thread. Obligations have me at the Beach until December 15th but I am so ready. Like Boomer said, praying for a deep December. Wow 20k posts.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Heading up Friday through Sunday. Will post some pictures. Looking promising with great weather. The not so great part is that the next 2-3 weeks will be dry. Glad to see this storm get enough coverage for plenty to get opened.

Figuring that anything on the upper Mtn needed to be bombed and ski cut, I waited until 10:30 a.m. and headed up towards the ch 4 parking lot. Cars were parked well past the ch 10/compressor house lot and were close to solid cars all the way down to ch 4. After the past two days of soulfull storm skiing I said "F#ck this", and turned around. I came back at 1:00 p.m. and skied the rest of the day.

The Top never opened but the High Traverse off the back of ch 3 did and I lapped that til closing. The snow was....interesting.
Imagine blower pow, now think of the exact opposite and that kind of what the snow was like. Slabby, wind effected with lots of minor avalanche debris. Here's a few photos from the afternoon to paint the picture.

Lower Wipe Out. The snow wasn't awful, but wasn't all the great either.

Slide action in Scotties, Monument and stretching over towards P1. This was common across much of the Top.

Last run I worked my way into lower Avi 2 and the snow was......same as the Top. It needs some skier traffic or wind to break it up and move it around.

Took these out today for the first time (QST 118) and they worked well in the crusty snow. My buddy was skiing on a much narrow ski (Enforcer 104) and he struggled at times if he got back on the tails at all.

Overall, I was glad I went back out in the p.m.. Got some goods runs in, but I'm sitting the next few days out.
Have a great Thanksgiving and ski/ride safely.
    Cheers.

Spent Friday to Sunday on the hill. The coverage is great for November and the entire mountain is basically open. The app said 173 of 178 runs open.

Saturday afternoon the wind was blowing and making magic buffing ch 3 & 5 nicely. Cornice skied great. All in all, a good start. It looks like the next 2-3 weeks though will be a dry spell so hopefully everything holds up until the ridge breaks down.

On a separate note, for those that camp on the scenic loop things are a bit more difficult. They haven’t plowed out the parking area where everyone sleds and sleeps. Some people were camping in the downhill lane of traffic, making it a single lane road. The ice is bad too which could make for a long year. We camped on night out closer to the 395 and then bailed and went to the campground in town and paid the $55/night.

Fun day out on the hill Monday. The place was empty and it was easy to rack up the vertical and # of runs. No wind and sunny skies with the temp hitting 47 deg at Eagle in the afternoon causing the snow to get springy. Groomers skied well and Cornice and Daves were the best runs off the Top.

The chair 23 side of the Top is ok. A bit hammered and could use a re-set or something to break up the snow a bit.

Afternoon Cornice with the groomed strip and the skiers left side skiing well.

Todays looking like a repeat of yesterday with at least another week of sun.

Daves had the best snow off the Top. The lookers left side under the patch of sun had some smooth winter snow.

After skiing my carvers most of the morning I got out some wider skis and headed out to the Tail to see if what I could find. What I found was some manky, thick, knee wrenching "pow" from the last storm. Not good.

Todays is looking like a repeat of yesterday with at least another week of sun.

Tuesday was another day of blue skies, mild temps, no wind and Mammoth about as uncrowded as it ever gets with (almost) the whole mtn open. Groomers are holding up great and with hardly any traffic it's been fun to rip some high speed carves and not have to look over your shoulder. In two days I've gotten in 47 runs and that's about as much as my legs can take early in the season. Here's a couple pics from Tuesday.

Here's proof of how quiet it is right now. Took a quick break for water at 11:15 a.m, at Canyon Lodge. When was the last time anyones seen the 3rd floor ticket lobby this empty? Three weeks from now this will be a distant memory.

The snow has been getting soft on the South facing runs on the Canyon side of the mtn. Haven't the Foggiest was perfect to carve it up around 11:30 a.m.

Wipeout 3/The Hump has a section of smooth winter snow at the top of it that was skiing well today. Lower down it's still the same chunky, ripped up snow. Wednesday should be a repeat of the last two days and it's definitely worth getting out on the hill.

    ^^ Crowd factor looks amazing.

Anyone get wind that Mammoth went cashless...cards or electronic payment only? I'm trying to conceptualize how my kids will pay for food on our upcoming trip.

Not sure about Mammoth, but seems many ski areas are doing it. Look into getting a Venmo teen debit card.

    Hey all,
Just wanted to give a heads up that Dec 7th-13th is Kids Ski Free Week for kids 12 and under. The purchase of an adult lift ticket is not required. Info can be found on Mammoth web page.

Also prepaid credit cards are still a thing, I believe.
