    Blizzard Mountain, Arco, ID

I grew up in eastern Idaho and have never visited this little place. Kelly Canyon, Bear Gulch and Targhee were always our first choice. Has anyone ever checked Blizzard Mountain out during ski season? It has a platter that pulls one up a decent looking hill. I imagine it doesn’t really get groomed, but it faces north so the snow probably holds pretty well. Click image for larger version.

Always wanted to ski blizzard. They hardly open. Lions club of Arco runs it. craters of the moon used to groom xc. A couple spitters from Arco ride the hills around there. Cool area.

Reminiscent of Badger Mountain just outside Waterville WA, also run by the Lions.

Rode it once. Very hard to time with the operating schedule and having enough base.
Unfortunately they were robbed a few months back but hopefully they can still run this season.

Sometimes you can get a good bowl of chili there at the schoolhouse (?) that’s the ‘lodge’. Be ready to help out keeping the engine running that turns the poma

Whoa, I've driven by there more times than I can count and had no idea it existed.

I've never skied there, but have a good friend that helps out there a lot and Wes, one of the guys repairing the "lodge", is a really good guy. Wes keeps a low profile, but he's quite the accomplished LRR mountaineer. Don't mess with him though as he's also a Butte County sheriff. In other words, don't go pissing off the feds at the Idaho National Laboratory driving around on dirt roads near the "complex" or trying to piece together your way to Big Southern Butte on roads that cross into the site.
It seems to me that using the poma at Blizzard could be of assistance getting you up to some elevation and touring from there up to Blizzard Mountain proper, from there the touring possibilities are endless.
