Improving rearward ROM of Tecnica Zero G

My Zero Gs are shot and I've been its finally time to replace them. They are by far the best skiing AT boot I've ever used and fit me pretty well with a few punches. However I don't think they tour all that well. I know they improved the forward ROM this year, which I never really thought was lacking, I've alway thought lack of rearward ROM was more the issue (plus super fiddly buckles...) In messing around with my shells it looks like the upper forward area of the lower shell comes in contact with the cuff when the cuff moves rearward, well before the rearward ROM of the cuff is maxed out. What would happen to the performance of the boot if you cut off a little bit of that part of the shell, like where I've drawn a sharpie line?

If I end up buying a new pair I might do this to my old pair, but I'm still trying to decide if any other boot is a better choice. On that note, does anyone have any experience skiing in both the Zero G (not necessarily the new version) and the current Maestrale RS? They actually fit me pretty well too, and definitely seem to have more rearward ROM, and just as much or more forward ROM, but I'm not psyched on the notably shorter cuff height...

I undo the lower cuff buckle completely. Put the upper cuff buckle in the loosest setting and click it forward, or undo it as well. I only undo the lower one. My pant cuff stops the buckle from flopping around. It dramatically reduces friction in the zone you have identified.

The other thing to look at is you liner. What are you using?

Same. The lower cuff buckle is the one that restricts the most ROM. If I'm on a flat long approach I'll undo both cuff buckles to get the most comfort. But this is a personal preference thing. I actually don't think it makes much of a difference but I like sliding and slopping around
