Bob Costas
Has announced he has retired from doing play by play.
Vibes to all the Yankees fans out there, and those fellow conjunctivitis survivors.I still call it The Jake.

I hate Bob Costas.
A long, long time ago, before Clear and TSA pre-check. There I was, in a line about 200 people deep at Atlanta airport security. There's been a hold up for a while now, the crowd is getting restless. I hear some commotion behind me, this angry short guy with his apparent wife and kids breaks the line and starts walking to the front. It's Bob Costas! He walks to the front, says to the security person what I'm guessing is "I'm Bob Costas, this is fucking ridiculous I have to stand in line with these dirty common people. Let me through." And, sure enough, he saunters through, looking as smug as ever.
Yep, I hate Bob Costas.

He doesn’t have to die, but I would celebrate his non-return to Olympic coverage….
fact.

He’s kind of past his prime, but his radio show in the ‘80s, Costas coast to coast, his late night talk show on nbc and On the Record on hbo were very good

I remember listening to c2c at night and liking it, but his play by play was horrific. As was his studio TV presence.

1992 Olympics, Charles Barkley elbows an Angolan player in the chest on their way down the court in a rout. After the game, Charles angrily tried to justify it--if someone hits me I'm going to hit them back. Costas--"And Charles has been overcome by the Olympic spirit."
A lot of people don't like Costas but he tried to put sports into perspective. Maybe that's what people don't like.

I wasn't a huge fan of his play by play, but I didn't mind his studio work and really like his shows at night several years back. I thought he bridged real world and sports world well

At least we never have to see him with pink eye again. That was uncomfortable to watch during the Olympics. He looked possessed.
