Unofficially Rose is opening the Lakeview lift serving KC Bowl and Ponderosa on Friday Nov 8th. They have not announced it yet but if you look at ticket sales, you can now buy tickets for all dates from November 8. Previously it was set for the 27th.

Looking for a used pair of xc skis with nnn-bc binding for one of my kids. Mainly just want the bindings. The kids 160cm tall and ~105#. For tromping around in the woods (not for the groomed track). I can’t get to the Tahoe XC swap next Saturday.
I'll be going since I'm trying to sell several pairs of AT skis... Can look for you. Assuming you want fishscale.

And you can see Diamond Peak white line dripping down tords (sic) the lake.

That’d be awesome if you’d do that! Critical thing is nnn-bc bindings. Sometimes I’ve seen xc bindings sold unmounted at that swap. I’d take them if they were mounted on some patterned skis that weren’t pricey. We have xc skis and xc bindings at home, just not nnn-bc bindings.

I’m super happy to have found some lightly used xc boots for the kid that fit him well.

Putting the TGR bat signal out there. Does anyone have a lift tower they don't need? I've come into possession of a gondola and want to mount it on a lift tower on the side of hwy 89.

Homewood has extra lift towers. Bonus they’re already located along hwy 89

I might go in two weeks assuming they'll have more open by then.

I was out on the WROD at Rose today. Did the afternoon session and skied from noon til 2:30 pm. The coverage is actually really good, no dirt, rocks etc. I could have brought better skis (tuned). Definitely busy. Lot of kooks going straight on rockered skis. Interesting. But fun for 10 runs or so to get back on skis.

Looking down kit Carson in the afternoon.

I took this during a rare gap in the crowds. It’s much busier than this pic makes it look.

I think I’ll pass on Saturday & Sunday.

Mount Rose third day report...yah kind of the proverbial early season shitshow. Warm weather the last two days then a refreeze last night presented the firmest conditions of this young season. Saw it all today, people walking down KC, people taking a slide for life down KC, multiple patrol calls, the usual. Still skiing is fun. Hopefully Rose gets some reset Monday. It doesn't look like this little storm has much forcing past the crest.

Question for y'all - getting my daughters 4runner ready for her move to Truckee this winter. The rig has 4 new Michelin X-Ice snows mounted on it - whats the locals pick for a set of chains for her to have in the rig? Never had to deal with Chains here in the Tetons..... She'll mostly be driving to Palisades 5-6 days/wk. TIA!

With 4wd and proper snow tires she’ll likely never need to put chains on. Still required to carry chains by law, but if it were me I’d probably just get something basic to meet the legal requirement.

If you actually want chains that are good, and relatively easy to install, I’ve had Thule chains in the past (no longer Thule, now Konig). They don’t make the same model now, but looks like the closest is the XG-12 Pro. Less fiddly installation than basic options and the link chains give better grip than cables.

In 35 years living in Truckee w a 4wd I've never needed chains or been checked. OTOH I was never in a situation where I had to go out no matter how bad the roads. My son worked a couple of years as a patroller at OV and never needed chains although he did do a 360 one morning going in to do snow safety. I believe there may be times when 4wd with chains is needed to go up and down Northwoods to Tahoe Donner, and a friend of mine has needed chains to go up his driveway in TD. Unless work or home involves a hill I wouldn't bother buying chains. The biggest obstacle for us is not traction but too much snow/not enough clearance and then there's no choice but to wait for the plow. People occasionally get snowed in for a day or two if they live on a low priority road.

4WD with chains (R3) can theoretically be imposed. The freeway will shut before that happens and I don't think the local roads even have a sign for it. I suppose if you were in an accident or in a ditch the CHP might cite you for no chains. The only place I've ever seen a chain checkpoint is getting on the freeway and going up old 40 to Sugar Bowl and no one has ever even asked if I have chains.

99% of the vehicles in the area with 4WD do not carry chains. Technically it’s required by law but in the same way that jay-walking is illegal. Major roads will just close before that point.

Going up and down Northwoods isn’t really an issue - that lower half of Northwoods probably gets more attention than any other road in Truckee. I’ve really only ever had one sketchy occurrence there with dust on slush conditions.

Also, I’ve learned when things are super sketchy it’s best to just park at the very bottom of your driveway. My driveway isn’t even very steep but I’ve been woken up during the night by my truck’s alarm because it slid back down to the bottom. And I have good tires.

Me neither. As pointed out ... roads close before it even becomes a possible issue.
