As a fair weather skier, I manage to avoid all this jibber jabber.
Started to rain in SF at around 6:40am. Staying put this weekend.
Started snowing at Lake level about 10 mins ago.
Hey ski squad--
The brand I run, Sunski Sunglasses, just launched our winter pro deal for our glacier glasses and backcountry shades. Would love to get the local snow pro crew in on this.
I posted it on gear swap, check it and please share with your local lifty!: https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...84#post7192484
If we're going to do a running weather report ... turned to rain at 6k' in Truckee.
Snow at 6300' Incline Village. For now.
Wet snow 6900' Alpine Meadows.
That’s the AM neighborhood - not the ski resort.Originally Posted by powdork;[emoji[emoji6[emoji640
Saw my 1st ever bobcat tonight! Out in the rain, over by the medical campus/golf course in CC.

are you medicinally golfing?
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Remember the sun? It was cool. This was Thursday
Face shots were had
Today I got to Alpine at 11, snowing hard and went for a short tour with whiskey. Then still snowing as I went up subway. As I went up TLC it changed to rain/ice pellets to the top for two runs. It was snowing at lake level when I got back home at 2.

It’s so rare to actually ski the morning of a pow day at Squawlpine, there is never not mountain closures. I miss Jackson Hole
The list of hazards on NWS Reno this morning is impressive. Including avalanche.
I go in to Smokey's in Truckee for a brisket sandwich with a side of cole slaw and a diet Pepsi from time to time. Donna would always ask me if I wanted that, except she always got it wrong. Yesterday, instead of Donna, there was a picture of her at the counter and the sad news that she had died. She wasn't that old. The young woman who took her place took my order, and got it wrong. I guess some things never change. But I miss Donna calling me hon. Sorry you'll never know you gave me a little piece of joy every time I came in. RIP hon.
I'm back from Purgatory!! The website had me locked out for the last week. So weird. Last week was really fun if you knew where to look. Soft, fresh, blown snow in the shade. Soft corn/slush in the sunshine. I finally got back on skis over 100mm. I got smoked from behind on mountain run Thursday (bruises and separated ribs). A week after my buddies 9 year old got taken out at the mid mountain merge at Alpine by Yellow (ended up concussed). Day after my buddy got landed on at the entry to Wolverine (broken arm). Geez, I was just cruising going straight with team kids when it happened. What the heck? How does one hit a moving skier, going straight, from behind? His comment "how did that happen?" I dunno buddy, you tell me. Anyway, U12 comp at SB canceled. I feel bad for the families that traveled to get here. Hoping this wet stuff is a nice base for colder snow into next week. EDIT: Of course now the site is all goofy without paragraphs. This site is a dinosaur. I had thought it was a IOS problem, but I'm on Android.
OG: Donna was such a sweetheart. She always took the time to stop and talk to my family. She will be sorely missed. She had just been talking about retiring and finding a place in Montana. They would have been better for it.
I've seen an ambulance every day I've skied for the last few weeks. Folks be going too fast. It's not the skiers who can handle the speed (although not necessarily on an open run with gomers like me in the way.) It's the people who go too fast because they don't have the skills to slow down. The slush should help.
Participation trophies all around
I believe that you gentlemen are correct. The hard snow is too much for people that do not know how to turn skis. We have been rallying some rough conditions the last few weeks. I did not imagine I would get hurt on mountain run. Boohoo. I have really enjoyed the firm snow. It has been fun to bring out some sharp skis. That said.... I am definitely ready to get back into some soft conditions.
My observation is that people would often pick up speed after falling on the hardpack slopes.

Kirkwood was NOT hero snow. I made four or five laps until a mound of snow was a rock. Ass over tea kettle to core shot in my Bananas. Went back to the car to either grab the other pair of skis or go home. I was soaked, the lines were getting long and I was still intact so I bailed. I made it home in time to go with my wife and mom to the Bob Dylan movie. I moved mom up here from San Diego earlier in the week. It's weird having mom this close to me but it's time for me to take care of her.
