    Euro Grumble 2025 - A Mag Shindig 3/9 - 3/16

First, lemme just say last season's mag gathering was a blast and I'm pretty sure everyone would agree.

So we're doing it again because, well, why not?

It's a helluva sweet trip with tons of fun mags, most of whom can ski alright. I kid. There's always a crew of rippers or just aggros ready to bust a move.
The vibe is usually very chill, yet a feeling of excitement permeates the hotel.

Having a large gathering of maggots, defined properly as a 'Grumble', is a constantly changing and interesting dynamic and conversations can be deadly serious or hilariously juvenile.
Lots of drinking choice beer, a suhweet wine selection and multi course fine dining each evening as well as a casual and tasty conti brekky.

And the skiing doesn't suck either. Matter of fact, there's freakin' miles of it in both directions of the valley. Big mountains. BIG.
Last year we had fresh most mornings and a few days with a foot or more. On piste or off, skiing was good to excellent most of the time with a few low vis hilarities ensuing.

Hopefully this thread will explode and the details will start pouring in.

If you've never been to Europe to ski, consider joining in with us at Mt. Lodge Sedrun, mag Vendul's establishment, and it may be the best opportunity you'll have to enjoy skiing in Europe/Switzerland as a rookie.

If you've been before, it's calling you back this year...

C'mon now, get the lead out!

Yes, please. I’m scheming for few weeks skiing about on the Continent and will certainly join in on the Grumble.

    Will there be waffles?

    Awesome!

Our spring break is the next week as per usual, so we can't make it to the main event with a girl in high school, but we are booked into the Mt Lodge the following week, March 16-22nd. Had enough miles (finally) to pay for nonstop tickets for the 3 of us out of ORD (wife, daughter, and myself) and we have epic local so 5 lift tickets to burn, absolute no brainer, we can't afford not to go.

I sat down to take care of this, and saw this thread pop up at basically the same time! Great minds.

    Stoked.

I don't know if I will make the Grumble in 2025, but sure hope to, and if not, will definitely make it some other year.

And anyone on the fence, get off the fence and do it, you will not be disappointed.

Wife and I are about 90% on this. 25th anniversary next March is necessitating a 3-week Swiss ski holiday. We're going to work it around this week in Sedrun.

The prior and tail weeks will be spent at Zermatt and St. Moritz respectively.

Eldest and middle kid *may* fly over to join us for the TRG week.

Haven't been this excited for a ski trip in pretty much forever.

As Koko said, Magic Mountain, VT. It's not worth the trip unless we have a really good year. Got an update today...things are trending positive. So, instead of doubtful, let's say cautiously hopeful. Also wanting to come back to your neck o' the woods. I did get the full Ikon as positive karma.

Last year I committed early and was all in for first my first trip to Europe. This year I'm going to see where the chips fall before deciding. Still got La Grave in my sights as a possibility, but combining the two doesn't seem to make much sense. Also have some North American destinations on my bucket list, so if we have an epic winter I may be tempted to stay closer to home. Just going to play the wait and see game.

Should have at least 3 members, possibly 4.

For those like Yeahman considering options, there’s a shitload of fantastic skiing within a couple of hours of Rueras like Montafon, Klosters/Davos, Arosa/Lenzerheide and St. Moritz.

This is great news for me, Scott!

I will pencil the dates in my calendar, and once back in office next week after vacation, I'll block it. Would love a re-run of this years gathering!

F4ck, I don't even have to search for flights you know, hehe!

Skeleton plan as of now, is to bring fewer pairs of skis, but more beer!

Thanks for making it happen, again!

    Damn, missed by that much.

I say knock em in the head, throw em in a duffle bag and show up early for the Grumble. Once in high school, it's perfectly acceptable to miss any extra weeks for world class recreation as opposed to in class instruction. In Iowa...
    It's a law.

Well that's excellent mag...it's a great time. Me thinks the next week in St. Mo, there's a big FIS comp of freestyle, moguls, snowboard and freestyle...

Well that's most excellent news. If things go well enough for you to make it, that alone will be a blessing. Fingers crossed for more positive news. You can show up here and stay at the house of 420 fosho. Anytime.
And I'm more about skiing witchu. Conditions and venue are secondary my friend. Our first lap at the 'ghee was screamin iceballz before it warmed up.

Makes sense; C'mon down if it snows, Always stoked to ski witcha. We didn't get enough time to turn much last time in CH but you were hanging with the bro so I get it. He was cool tho. We'll be glad to have you join in if you can my friend.

Suhweeet, so looking forward to the group dynamic and casual new friend making. Yer my bud, Buster. Thanks for creating this great thing we do.

"I'm pretty sure this is the wrong train." I was kinda bent then, head swirling in a latent covid fog, but we laugh about it now. Fkna, the train travel was so fun last time. 7 or eight of us lunching and drinking brews after lindenle and the energetic mags booked and got us all pizza and drinks and chips.

Yeah, those damn skis just get in the way. The trunk of yer eurosporty sedan overflowing with choice old country brews, man, that's good living right there.

I will be super stoked to ski yas again...I'm thinking about renting some shorter, skinnier, softer skis to turn like you do.

I'm all about that headband shite. Roll up the neck gaiter and get yer Apache on. My moustache carries Emeritus status and is no longer competitive. It's older than a lot of mags.

I'll be 59 when I see you next but I've been pushing 17 for decades now. My body is turning the corner but my mind is still churning.

High school is a different beast than junior high, but I use this trip as a carrot for the kid to stay on the straight and narrow. It worked last year, so hopefully this year works as well. And if not, Cat in January is a retired school teacher and can hold math lessons in the tram line!

Thanks for running the show Buster and DJ. Looking forward to making turns again with you.

The plagues are in for a weekend if there is some kind of family friendly weather and snow in the Kinderland in sedrun.

If vendul let's us bum in his driveway.

If there is nofamiky trip, I'll at least try to get over for a day trip.
So which weekend will most of the tribe be there?

Edit: I just realised that my carnival holidays are from Feb 28th to March 9th so if anyone is in the alps the week before: I'm probably going to chase some pow.
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

    True.

I looked up Gloria Falls Trailhead below Snowbird to Michigan City up in Grizzly area and that's only 4.3 miles.

The Andermatt Disentis SkiArena is huDge. Maybe Mammoth compares?

If all goes as planned, Clan Highmen will roost in Rueras March 10-16 with a preamble in Klosters/Arosa and a postamble elsewhere.

So that makes it the 14-16 the weekend for us.

Edit: with a group of 3 during the 5-10 interval, and possibly 4 for the 10-16, I need to have a hotel locked down.
