Candice Lill of South Africa. She was a contender for a medal.
She is an older rider at 32, and is a priateteer on the UCI MTB World tour. She funds her own way and has been on the XCO podium twice this year. 2nd at Les Gets and 3rd at Val di Sole.
She ran it to the tech zone, had a rear wheel change and finished 20th.

Chapeau to Ferrand-Prevot at her last Olympics
And to Haley Batten & Rissveds.

And vibes to Lecompte. That had to hurt

Apparently Puck lodged a protest about Haley not accepting a bottle through the last feed zone. That was probably the reason for the delay on the podium ceremony. Jenny dismissed it as meaningless.

When she fell, it looked like she was knocked out. I thought Lill broke a chainstay, but apparently not. Anyway, great race.

Her carbon rim broke in 2 spots, and the end of her rim was sticking out. She said it was aloud bang like a gun shot!
At first I thought it was a course marking pole stuck in her wheel, which are plastic like a ski gate, so too soft to do damage. This photo shows the blue rim tape on the inside, and her black rim from the bottom sticking out, and not attached to anything.

She was knocked out for a bit, and exited the course on a stretcher
    See https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/coa...mountain-bike/

The article includes a pic of her fresh out of medical attention. Looks like the makings of black eyes besides the chin damage. Good that no wrists, clavicles or shoulders were destroyed on that maneuver

There's a rule that you have to drink water at every feed zone? what if you're already fully hydrated and feeling bloated? You're forced to drink more?

You can't just go through the mechanics area/feed zone without taking something. If I remember correctly, she was drafting the eventual bronze women through the zone. Most racers were going through the zone in each lap (both ways), and it looked faster than not going through the zone (faster tread). She got lucky, should have grabbed a bottle and then dropped it.

I've really enjoyed Haley throughout this season. My daughter got one of her kits from last year through her coach, and then got to spend some time with her at the soldier hollow stuff. She seems like a nice person who goes out of her way to look out for younger riders in town. There are a number of internet stuff saying she flatted during her race. I didn't see it? Regardless, she has developed an ability to hold on and then put out some serious watts in a sprint on the last lap to separate. I'm looking forward to 2 watching Riley Amos in the years to some. For a kid his age to outperform so many older riders is amazing. As a hard tail guy, I love that the dominant performance by Ferand was on one!

Is this the thread where we put the Pidcock news?
The TV cameras missed the most important part of the final lap move with Pidcock and Koretzky. Koretzky actually washed out his front wheel, went off track, was clipped out and trying to remount his bike when the TV cameras then picked back up as Pidcock went around the tree as it seemed like Pidcock cut off Koretzky forcing him to clip out.
In reality Koretzky was already clipped out, and trying to force his way back in front of Pidcock.
This spectater's video clearly shows the seconds before they went different side of the tree:

Dee, thanks for putting that up. Pidcock is a really amazing rider. his ability to thump out an occasional Mountain Bike race and dominate when he does is amazing. I love that he seems to love mountain biking. I've never seen a pinerello Dogma MTB in person. I know they created them so they could represent these two, but boy did that pay off for them!!

Yeah, no doubt, that angle changes everything. Thanks Dee. Is Pidcock racing on the road also? He’s amazing.

Pidcock was in this years TDF. I would have said clean pass, thats racin to the initial tv angle, but that makes it even clearer. What a race, exciting racing from the flat onward, glad to see Riley hanging on, but clearly shows the difference between the top 3 and the rest of the field there.

VK’s off-camera washout is not the same moment as TP’s pass. They’re separated by at least a minute. The washout was at the top of the final descent, and was on the right hand side of the track. The pass was later, and on the left hand side of the track.

Having seen both passes now, I have no issue with either.

Haley should have taken the water and dumped it. It is weird that the complaint came from Puck. She went out of contention with the flat. Halley did overcome a flat on the fourth lap.

So much of elite racing is a bit of luck. I was awestruck at Keegan Swensons recent run until he got tangled and taken out at unbound by his close friend. I am convinced the really great know how to save their tires and create their own luck. Haleys choice to go through the long route every time in the rock garden is something i want to ask her about.

I am now interested to see how Pidcock does in the road race, which I wouldn't even have followed. He's a badass on any bike!

Correct. Tom pops out of the trees with a sudden lead on VK, a few minutes before the end.
