IIRC field hockey has more fans world wide than every sport except cricket and soccer. Just don't ask me why...

At least a quarter of MLB players are not from the USA. I think these players come from about 20 different countries. And there are 7-8 legit pro leagues around the world (with play quality ranging from the equivalent of AAA in Japan to low-A in Australia). The #1 pick in the MLB draft this year was Australian! I think it is pretty damn international. Plus the potential matchups are awesome in a sport where a good pitcher always gives you a chance. Puerto Rico vs USA! Japan vs Korea! Cuba's mystery roster vs anyone!

But MLB will not let guys play in the Olympics so putting it in the Olympics is completely pointless. We don't need it. But everyone should carve out time to watch this in 2026:

As an aside I wonder how Honnold would do on these.
Ethos is that things are designed so at most 1 can top lead or all boulders, as shit gets weird when everyone tops as it goes to time and attempts, which is a bad method.
Honnold fell hard when he tried the women's boulders in SLC I recall, so wouldn't do well at all.
Ondra is the closest to an outdoor crusher moonlighting we get, but it's not like Schubert, Raboutou and others aren't out there too.
Schubert sent Ondras proj and Brooke Raboutou was able to suss through a famous V15/16 (box therapy) with a 3+ hour approach in 3 days.
    These climbers are stupid good.

Great olympics all around in my opinion.

Maybe this will change your mind, way back when I was an Olympic hopeful we had to do a sort of aptitude test to determine mental state etc. The results determined, among other things, that synchronized swimmers had the highest sex drive of any sport.

It's got to be a bit, right? Apparently she's some sort of personality down under and maybe this was her Borat moment - getting to the Olympics?

    Other random musings:

Baseball not a global sport? Its popular in: North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean Asia and Oceana. That leaves Europe and maybe Australia (where it is played in every state, but cricket is king - the #1 pick in this year's MLB draft is an Aussie). That said, it's not a good Olympic sport as pointed out and the WBC is a good product these days.

I think surfing will be cool in LA and can't wait to hear stories of how the planning committee deals with the "locals only - stay off our beach" kooks.

We need more Eddie, not less. It’s been almost 40yrs since the Eagle flew.

Having a Joe Schmoe attempt every event would be a great addition to the games and show just how absurdly talented the athletes are

P.S. US Open in only two weeks - if you're a tennis fan.

You need someone to tell you how talented they are? No. Show more sports and less BS.
Hey, I get it, the UK didn’t have any ski jumpers, so he got just good enough to appear at the games. Whatever.
I don’t hate Robel Kiros Habte though.

Flag football seems out of place. They should replace it with Australian rules football instead.

China? India? Russia? The entire continent of Africa?? No, no, no and no. Plus the EU as you mentioned. That seems to me like a good portion of the world. Does Brazil, the biggest country is S America, like baseball? No, they do not

Thats 6 of the worlds 10 most populous countries (including #1 and #2, who make up almost 1/5 of the worlds population just by themselves) and NOT EVEN COUNTING the EU.

You can't play baseball in China because the Chairman Pooh will take away your family's social credit points and send you off to build iPhone with the Uighurs for playing American games.

    Paris 2024 Summer Olympics

Peacock and total streaming changed Olympic coverage for good. So easy to pick and choose live or replay on demand. Thats what made this one so great I think. USATF was so inspiring.

And, oh yeah, Water Polo can go the way of break dancing afaic:

“American water polo player Johnny Hooper was ejected from the quarterfinal match-up against Australia after he punched an Australian player. Officials ruled the punch as a foul called a “brutality."

In other news, "Breaking" has already been ruled out for LA 2028. One and done! Making its return to the Games in 28, baseball, softball, and LACROSSE (!!!) which I think is pretty rad. LA will also have squash, cricket, and flag football (sensing a one-and-done there too..)

they gonna let the Native Americans compete as their own team? i mean, they fucking invented lacrosse, they should get to showcase their talents.

I think after Tahiti, it’s gonna be a huge let down even with the best conditions. But they should def have Anthony Keidis checking credentials
