I was thinking the same thing. No place for that on the track or field. Leave that stuff for the b-ball court, football field or soccer pitch.

What an absolutely enjoyable two weeks that was.

Best Summer Games in my memory. So fun to share with our young son every day too.

Can’t wait for Cortina, and then (après Les Alpes), SLC a handful of years after that. See y’all there Maggots.

I dated a girl who was a dancer in the '96 olympics closing ceremony. She was way outta my league.

Agree. Paris as a backdrop to these awesome games was as good as it gets. None that I remember compare to the last two weeks.

That LA28 handoff w/ Tom Cruise and the Chili Peppers was incredible.

Totally. There have definitely been previous big iconic moments - Like Ali lighting the torch or the Jet Pack Guy at 84 - but the back drop of Paris combined w so many outstanding events is hard to beat. Plus the never ending smorgasbord of hotties

That’s what the world needed. Loved the positivity these last two weeks brought everywhere. Seeing the best in the world shine makes me happy and I thoroughly love these productions every 2 years. Bring on the next Winter Olympics please and thank you.

LA has their work cut out for them. They should move the closing to after the paralympics.

It was so the year of the mocha-skinned, articulate heroine. Hope they all stay on top through '28. At least.

Yep; if every summer was this enjoyable, we wouldn't be so damn crabby in July/August/September.

You mean pre-season NFL football isn't doing it for you?

Sepp Kuss, an American, won the Vuelta last year. The first American to win a Grand Tour in more than a decade

Yeah I was pretty depressed when I went to turn on my TV this morning - as has been my habit for the past two weeks - only to remember, shit, there's nothing on

In other news, "Breaking" has already been ruled out for LA 2028. One and done! Making its return to the Games in 28, baseball, softball, and LACROSSE (!!!) which I think is pretty rad. LA will also have squash, cricket, and flag football (sensing a one-and-done there too..)

Why no baseball this year? Seemed pretty popular in the past, at least at the '96 olympics. Do the French just hate it that much?

Shame, really. That is all our loss.

Clearly you are not familiar with the global down-your-throat machine that is led by Roger Goodell. You (and the rest of the world) will like your flag football, and you're gonna get more of it.

I don't think baseball is really a "global" sport. Yes its huge in the US and its pretty big in the islands around the US (Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic) as well as some Central American countries (Venezuela, Panama, Nicaragua) and the Japanese and Koreans like it but... I don't think its really that popular anywhere else

The World Baseball Classic is awesome. Olympic baseball, in the middle of the MLB season, is pointless.

I bet the cricket will be cool.

Flag football? Will it be a bunch of 12 year olds?

Boxing hasn't been ruled out for '28 yet. Just that the IOC refuses to run it again (like they did this year and in Tokyo three years ago) and has "urged national boxing federations to create a new global boxing body or risk missing out on the Olympics in four years' time"

The IBA (International Boxing Association) USED to be that body, but the IOC suspended the IBA in 2019 over "governance, finance, refereeing and ethical issues" and did not involve it in running boxing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, before stripping it of recognition in 2023. A new organization called World Boxing was launched in 2023 and currently has 37 members, still far fewer than the IBA, but it is not recognized by the IOC (yet).
