    It's an exceptional population.

Definitely the post-pandemic Olympics the world needed and deserved. Has the US ever dominated T&F like this?

Kerr clearly cares more about legacy than current ability. Ok. Fine. Or maybe he is playing "his" guys or the guys he trusts? But benching Tatum is too much. He's the best player on the reigning champs. 3 consecutive years 1st team all NBA. In a few years when they are recruiting players for 2028 guys will be asking, "You gonna bench me?" I promise Kerr won't be coach again.
    i disagree in a sense..

i love anthony edwards, but he didnt play great today. i love steph.. but he hasnt played great until today. kd came in game one and lit it up. these arent 7 game series and the rotations reflect that

tatum hasnt played great from what ive seen in these olympics.. and theres just so much depth that you really can argue benching him. maybe not zero minutes, but id rather him not take away minutes from lebron, steph, kd, anthony edwards, etc.. you could argue hes better than booker but booker has been playing well so why bench him? its not like tatum sucks but when you assemble a cast of all stars and all time greats someone is going to have to sit on the bench and it just so happens to be him

This is a particularity strong year. We have 9 golds, 10 silver and 8 bronze as of right now. I think we have a decent shot at 3-5 more golds with what’s left.

    In 2021 we only had 7 golds; 13 in 2016, 9 in 2012, 13 in 96, 12 in 1992.

Considering position, explain how Tatum isn't the worst forward on this team.

Seems like I'm not the only one who thinks benching Tatum for the entire game is very odd.

This is the Olympics and your team is stacked with all stars and all NBA players, I don't see how you justify giving anyone a DNP-CD, honestly.

Watching bouldering. Problems seem impossible to top out on. Can the route setters even do their own problems or do they just set crazy shit that no one could do?
As an aside I wonder how Honnold would do on these.

Without Lyles, the USA still has a strong 4x100. I want to see Kerley get a gold. I love seeing Kerley and Lyles together in interviews, the entire time Kerley's expression is "see the shit I have to put up with?"

Lyles definitely seems to be on the neurodivergent side, but he also has a smoking hot girlfriend - Jamaican sprinter Junelle Bromfield.

Yer off your meds. Give it a rest. I'm a Celtics fan, and would love to see Tatum get more time. It didn't make sense to this armchair coach and was disappointing. All of that was in the moment while watching my team look like they were going to luge big time. However, ultimately, Kerr and the team got the result we needed.

Ping pong was bad enough. They should definitely leave the luge to the experts.

I agree with this take. Stuff that would be cool in another venue (eg, busking in some urban center) is incredibly cringe at the Olympics

Yes, though you have to remember that Kerley chose his path back in 2020, diverging from being the one of the best 400m guys in the world (43.70 NCAA record, 43.64 PB, now #10 All-time) to "improve his speed" by focusing on the 100m during the Pandemic. He's chosen to stick with the drama and high-stakes of shorter sprints, no-doubt because of his success and versatility. But he seems to want to be in the middle of the theatrics, especially with his antics over the last year.

Tebogo, on the other hand, showed us incredible poise and character with his 200m win and post-race. Guys like Tebogo, Knighton and Kung Fu Kenny are really admirable to show up and perform without the hysterics (and I say that as someone who doesn't really mind Lyles):

I guess he gets asked that a lot...

Honnold came out to great applause earlier today to start the men's combined (boulder/lead) sport climbing final. (About 16 minutes in to the replay on Peacock if you have that.)

There are a few YouTube clips here from the combined final.
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

I think the men's break dancing will be better, since they have the upper body strength to do all the acrobatic, pommel-horse type shit on the floor, can do the "freeze" moves better/longer, etc, but.. yeah. Pretty cringe. The names made it even worse. I made it through one match, "Syssy vs Logistx" or something, then I gave up.

In other news: Gold Medal Soccer! First I've heard that Mbappe isn't playing for France. That sucks, Your best player, and one of the best players in the world (and certainly one of the most fun to watch) can't play cause his pro team won't let him?? BOOOOO
