    AI search for water polo:

“Water polo can be a physically demanding and competitive sport that involves some violence. Players can exhibit aggression by kicking, punching, scratching, biting, grabbing, head-butting, holding, and sinking. The most violent area of the pool is often in front of the goal, where defenders consistently pummel centers.”

Today's men's outta nowhere 400m race is badass! Tomorrow's women's 400m with Sydney vs. Femke should be good too.

That was almost as exciting as the 1500 finish!!

edit: whoops no spoilers for those who will watch it tonight
Also a super insane race!! He went from 5th out of the curve to storming home. Great story and what a progression he’s had over the last six years.

Norman is a head case and was never in it. Bummer.

Its been a tough few days for fans of US beach volleyball. Straight set loss after straight set loss, in elimination games. Very little to cheer about in match after match after match. NO medals for the US this Olympics

It was basically an American sport until the Olympics. The others have caught up now with pro tours and such.

I did not say the game was not a battle. You called it “lawless thuggery” “who can get away with more” - which in the game noted, Hooper rightfully received a penalty that was essentially 120x the normal exclusion time plus a penalty shot for throwing a punch. Sounds like a law was implemented and he didn’t get away with shit…

Plenty of serious injuries and resulting time in an OR from other sports… my guess would be polo has significantly less than any comparable ball sport.

I think thats what made it so depressing to watch this year. We're used to it being an automatic medal for the US, a sport where we know if we tune in to a match the US is playing in, that we'll watch a win (or at least, a very close match). Not this year. Like I said, straight set losses in almost every single elimination match for both the US men and women

In other news, the lightweight men's boxing Gold medal match was awesomely entertaining

edit: men's greco-roman wrestling gold was as boring as the lightweight boxing gold was exciting.. Looked for a while there that it was gonna end at 1-1 with both points being "inactivity points"!!?! YAWWWN

This morning, I was thinking about all the similarities between the Menz 1500 and the women’s road cycling race in both events. You had the two kind of favorites fighting it out and then they had the American coming through at the last moment just passing them all.

I think what this country needs is a Center For The National Development of American Sports. I'll be damned if we should ever not take gold in a sport that we invented. Can you imagine if our record in Olympic basketball was like our record in BMX freestyle?

So, my fellow Americans, elect me and I'll make sure that from now on, we win gold in BMX, skate, surf, snowboard, basketball, baseball and other sports invented right here in our god-fearing country. Thank you.

This Slovenian gal really killed it in the bouldering (sport climbing) yesterday...

It occurred to me today while watching the women's finals that speed climbing is a lot like hurdles, only vertical. Grooved moves practiced over and over and over on the same course layout.

Adam Ondra had a really nice climb in the Men's Combined Seminfinal (Lead) earlier today. If you have Peacock it starts 1:13:20 into the replay.
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

It's called college. What you need to do isconvince aging rich dudes who were rad in the '80's to become boosters. There is no reason skating, surfing, etc. aren't NCAA sports except for money.

NCAA women's wrestling starts next year. With that addition American women will become dominant on the world scene.

The steeplechase crash was even worse than it looked. Dude lost consciousness and his leg was twitching as they were getting him on the stretcher. Regained consciousness but must have a doozy of a concussion

He clipped his knee on the steeple, which spun him around in the air and he landed on his shoulder/back of his head. Sounds like he’s “ok” but it will be a long road back:

How are you people not talking about USWNT football? This team is so fun to watch. Unbelievable talent and a very balanced squad.

Look how many athletes from other countries go to college and otherwise train in the US.
And I know one thing--the Canadian beach volleyball players didn't learn the game on no beach. Same witht he Swiss.

The Ethiopians tried to control the track in the steeplechase. Didn't work out.

Horrible #2 & #3 exchange for the US women. Need to clean that up.

We’re huge fans. Emma Hayes is a great coach and seems to be just what this group needed.
Marta,(probably in her last international game, could be a problem in the final).
They play Saturday at 11 AM Eastern, if anybody’s wondering.
