The flock of pigeons at this Mor-Spa match are *killing* me.

I should have watched the replay of Knibb's TT crashes. Watching her tow the German back to the lead in the team Tri--and seemingly refuse help!--has me thinking she may have earned every dumb thing that's happened to her. She treated the bike like a run. At least she gave up her road race spot.

The problem with hosting the Olympics is the velodrome. Most sport arena’s / venues you already have, or can build temp, or can build and reuse / repurpose. But a velodrome… you have to build velodrome…. Then you have velodrome…

You guys made me look. Atlanta’s Velodrome for the 96 games was a massive steel based temporary track taken down after the games. It was an outdoor track.
Ironically there is another outdoor velodrome by the airport that has been in continual use since 1972. Weird.I still call it The Jake.

Keely Hodgkinson destroyed that 800 m final. Led from the front the whole race, Pre would have smiled.
Also, Gabby Thomas, wow.

Interesting point. We have a somewhat local velodrome due to the Pan AM Games. Don't believe there's any others anywhere near here.

Men's doubles badminton, gold medal match, China-Taiwan (Chinese Taipei). Most raucous crowd, most intense competition I've seen at the games so far. (And I did catch the mixed judo final.)
Cool to see Adam Ondra at the sport climbing (boulder) competition today as well. The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Interesting. I'd imagine a velodrome is similar to a pool. You can make world-class temporary pools now--like the one in Paris (even if it was a bit shallow) and in Rio (even the building was temporary there). This has got to be the way going forward rather than building a massive amount of new infrastructure that is ridiculously outsized once the Games are over.

I am very pro velodrome. My very nice steel colnago road bike came into my possession (for a song) when a surgeon needed to make room in his stable for a track bike. This was in the boot heels of the 2004 games.
I wonder if athletes doing stuff in the Seine had to waive rights for legal action due to getting sick before being able to enter the river.
I wish the peacock coverage was a little better, especially with their highlights vids. I wanted to show the fam the mixed 4x400 WR heat, but couldn’t find via peacock. We still enjoyed watching the race.

Yup, that 1500 was wild and wooly! Wow!
On another front, this is interesting.
“My performance and what I’m able to do in training is so closely linked to nutrition,” he says. “As I’ve gotten older, it’s become more so with limiting inflammation, making sure I’m properly hydrated, making sure I can make it through workouts. I can’t get away with the same things at 30 that I could at 20.”

Prophecy fulfilled (not mine; his). Ive spent two decades on the TGR of track and field and many of us there saw massive medal potential for him and a strong likelihood of stealing the gold. Insane.
My Kids were napping but i wanted to scream. Centro’s 1500m gold in Rio was a huge win and some amount of luck and the stars aligning. But today! Today was proof of growth as a middle distance top-tier runner and his true potential. 1st, 3rd and 5th is finally the statement of fact that USA men are real players on the world stage.
