sounds awesome!! You'd hope some other runs off jp would be open if they have the course shut down. Maybe the new lift up no name (i'm making this up) will be in by then.

Looks like UDOT won't be taking over the ski bus yet. Service appears to be the same shitty reduced level it's been the last two seasons, with maybe some surge service during the busiest periods.

UTA mentioned that they have two contractors that are going to provide service along Fort Union and during surge periods. They did talk at length about how difficult it is to staff the canyon's without impacting their regular or as they call it baseline operations. Staffing is good but they lost drivers when they had to have drivers work excessive overtime, sometimes mandated. UTA has added a large number of vans for the resorts to move employees that has opened seats for skiers, I don't remember the number but it was significant. Someone from UDOT talked very briefly about tolling and was adamant that tolling would be used to discourage driving. Mike Maughan talked briefly, 5% of their customers take public transportation, this number has been stable, he said many years ago it was as high as 8% but that is the most it ever was. He said he doesn't think tolling, which Alta is opposed to, will have much impact on reducing traffic. He used the example of Alta charging $25 for parking, did not reduce traffic. Did result in more car pooling but as he said they could easily sell more spots if they had them. He talked about people having to stand on the bus carrying their equipment and not having a place to put their gear when they arrive. Having lockers available when the gondola or enhanced bus service happens will be important. Someone else talked about needing legislative action to fix the traction law. The suggestion is that they make the traction law date based, not when weather requires it, such as November 1st - May 1st.

Isn’t the traction law already date based, as in during the winter months you are required to have snow tires or chains but you only have to use them when lights are flashing? It’s never enforced so not very relevant I guess, but as it’s with written now the laws are logical on paper

Some Snowbird parking questions:

-Do I use the ParkWhiz app to make and pay for reservations or pass.snowbird.com? Why is there two options?
-What the fuck does this mean "Guests who enjoy the ability to make parking reservations". Who are they implying can't make reservations?
-How much is daily paid parking with a reservation and without one? Valet, a separate option, is $30, right?
-When it says preferred parking season pass holders lots 'ends' at 1pm - so anyone can park in these lots after 1pm?

- In addition to their own buses they are contractting w/ third party providers for service (cottonwood connect)
- 953/LCC route is back
- Canyon service 1 and 2 - Runs from 12/8 - 4/12
- CS1 emploees and earlybirds - runs 6-8:30 am every half hour Midvale > GMD
- CS2 - 6200 Wasatch Park and Ride - 8:20 am - 7:30 PM will then take it south along Wasatch Boulevard with stops at the Big Cottonwood Canyon Park & Ride and the Cottonwood Heights Park & Ride near 8100 South (also known as the “swamp lot”). From there, it will only make stops at Snowbird and Alta in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

UTA’s Ski Bus will give Alta, Snowbird skiers more options in 2024-25


I think this year will have growing pains but honestly UDOT and UTA seem to (appear!) to actually be trying. Hope it works.

I have 2 (maybe 3?) seasons on my car's Blizzaks and I just made the minimum depth of tread. Tires look in great shape so it makes me think there are going to be a lot of tourists getting denied on their trips to LCC due to tread. But cops may not have time to measure tread, just glance if they are bald and have the right rating...who knows.

I’m pretty you you just explained why the canyon sticker program is in place. Go get inspected, they place a sticker for you now on the windshield and you’re supposed to be waved by. At least that how I’ve read things. I got my sticker yesterday.

What I understood was the area where climbers park on the north side of the road just below Gate A will be where non sticker vehicles will be directed for inspection.

Technically, CS1/CS2 is replacing the 953. No 953 UTA route per here: https://rideuta.com/Rider-Info/Ski-Service

Still a great thing, and free for passholders like normal UTA ski routes. This will take a lot of pressure off the 994 route and definitely make my life easier.

I have no clue for up in the valley but down in Ogden there are plenty of places around the city to tuck away. I see all kinds of broken down looking cars at the base of the canyon.

What is the general view of the NEW traction law enforcement?

I have not seen anyone turned around, it is a very small sample size.

I come up 9400 S so the inspector is on the passenger side when I drive by with my sticker. Saturday it was dark and I had snow on my windshield, I don't believe he had any idea if my SUV was 4WD.

I came down early Saturday, traction law was still in effect at 12:30 and no law enforcement presence at mouth of the canyon. On the way down a Prius and a Toyota sedan were both stuck on a steep right hand turn spinning their wheels.

Anecdotal but looking at vehicles in the Wildcat parking lot no more than 10% have stickers.

Not sure about LCC, but it has completely broken BCC again, which they had managed to tame last year with brighton parking reservations. I had a parking reservation, left my house in slc at 740, and it took 2 hours to get to brighton. Free flowing canyon traffic, cars backed up to 215. Stupid.
